Sun God Seven , a Louisiana band has the common answer for Gun Control in their new video
" This is My Rifle". Their views on preserving our rights and our 2nd amendment are right in line with the way our Constitution was written , here you go

You need to do your homework. First, I would challenge you to name one single instance where you have had your 2nd amendment rights infringed upon.....because you haven't. Second, I would challenge you to pick up a history book and look at how the 2nd amendment has been interpreted differently throughout history.

The second amendment is essentially the only amendment in the constitution that is not actually enforced. Want to know why? Because there are a whole bevvy of interpretations and, legally, they are all very legitimate. The supreme court ruled in 1939 in US vs. Miller that a citizens has the right to bear arms but only as it is necessary in the formation of a well-regulated militia. The ruling went on to define a "well-regulated militia" as one that is formed by the government, in defense of the government. This is the only supreme court ruling rendered strictly on the 2nd amendment. Why? Because those who now claim that the 2nd amendment grants the right to every Tom, Dick and Harry to own an AR-15 are not completely stupid and understand that they do not have the legal precedence to bring a case before the Supreme Court. At the very least they would risk losing any case brought before the court since legal precedence has been established by the aforementioned case.

I am a gun owner and a veteran. I believe that I have the right to bear arms in order to defend my home from any one who would attempt to harm myself or my family. That said, the 2nd amendment is not a license to possess any kind of weapon system available. Like any right or privilege there are responsibilities that go along with it to ensure that the right to bear arms is not abused by those who would seek to exploit it. If you really want to take the time to do some research on the 2nd amendment, you will find that our founding fathers elected to leave this particular amendment vague in an effort to allow following generations to make interpretations of this law to fit the times. One thing I feel certain of is that the founding fathers were not supporters of gun rights at all costs. Gun ownership and the right to own a gun is a privilege and should be treated as such.

Hey my man, thanks for serving our country. As I see it if we don't keep our government in check our rights will be infringed. To each his own NC. Have a great day

I believe our founders had many things in mind when they wrote the constitution. Remember they revolted against what they saw as an oppressive government in 1776. They had a fear of an over intrusive central government. They also had the experiance of chaos under the Articles of Confederation. A too weak central government was not able to provide the security or effective government .

There are many examples of where there is a tension between the branches of the federal government, the central government & the states and the government and the people. The constitution provides for a strong central government with specific protections for individuals against that government. The very set up of the federal government allows for checks & balances between and within the branches. The states are protected in the in the 10 amendment balances by the supremecy clause. There are the individual protections in the 10 amendments. According to the constitution the people are soverign but they cede the power of government to their elected representatives.

The point of all the above to to show that there is nothing absolute about the distribution of power and the status of rights. This has been well demonstrated by the last 200+ years. I believe there are NO absolute rights and every one of the rights enumerated by the 10 amendments and follow on have limitations. These limitations are allowed by the application of laws. In fact the 10th amendment has been so limited as to be rendered almost meaningless.

The 2nd amendment has had limitations, some significant for much of the 19th, all of the 20th and 21st centuries. I mean you can't own a functioning cannon or nuculear bomb nor could you own a gatling gun or tommy gun n the past. Even when the constitution was written personal arms were not a match for those of the armed forces. We won the Revolution armed with French muskets and French cannon not Pennsylvania squirrel rifles. States have a broad range of gun laws. I believe the debate should be recognized as political and claims that proposed laws for registration or limitation are within the bounds. Those claiming to defend the absolute right to bear arms are not supported by history or law. The NRA is doing a disservice by acting as if it were.
