In the gumps appeal to the NCAA over their text book scandal they have released some of the original ruling from the NCAA. Think it was worth the appeal to get this kind of great publicity?
 at Bama for the NCAA slamming them for their pathetic history of being dirty. "Alabama was placed on three-year probation in June, fined $43,900 and forced to vacate wins in 21 football games" Which games are these, exactly? Here we go: The Crimson Tide football team was stripped of 21 wins during the the 2005-07 seasons, and the school wants those wins restored. NCAA: Alabama a 'serial repeat violator' - SEC - ESPN
From the above article. Can you believe Bama made this argument: The university argued that the repeat violator status shouldn't have been a factor and that the committee cited it in a way that "ignores bylaws and precedent addressing repeat violator penalties." According to Alabama, the NCAA said the university's "extensive recent history of infractions cases is unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA." Alabama said the NCAA database includes at least 27 Football Bowl Subdivision schools with as many or more infractions cases. Hey there are 27 schools as bad or worse than we are ! Pitiful.
I think they should restore the 21 games, everybody knows that they won them fair and square. Instead they should lose 21 scholarships. It's the only punishment that ever got Bama's attention and it apparently hasn't cured it yet. Perhaps more medicine is needed.
How do you win games fair and square that you cheated to win? Maybe they should vacate the wins and still get more "medicine". Funniest thing I have seen on this was: Scarbinsky: Alabama's past sins gone, but not forgotten by the NCAA | Scarblog - al.com It’s obvious. The COI looks at Alabama and sees red. You don’t have to read between the lines when you read lines like these: “Serial repeat offender.” “Abysmal infractions track record.” “An institution with an appalling and unprecedented recent infractions history.” “Extensive recent history of infractions cases ... unmatched by any other member institution in the NCAA.” Unmatched. Hey, another national championship.
Do you really think that selling a textbook gave them an advantage in the game? I don't think so. They won their wins. The violation was abuse of scholarship money. It should only cost them scholarships.
I've listened to the local sports talk the last few days mainly because of this. Its normally something I avoid except for Finebaum. I have also got my fair share of work associates giving me their 2 cents. You should here the gumps trying to spin this. I cant even begin to explain how pathetic and desperate they sound. The funniest comment was from someone I work with who stated the gumps had never been on probation in their entire history until 1992 and that should be worth something. I said WTF? :insane: Just because they never got caught doesnt mean a damn thing. Since 1992 they are the MOST penalized institute in the NCAA.
