Ah, the classic argument of, "If you're critical of A, then you must want B." (B = something worse). Women do this a lot. "I'm sorry for causing a scene at your office party, I guess you'd be happier if you were still with [crazy ex-girlfriend]!"
putting Lee in probably would have resulted in LSU getting beat even worse. if we were to put in a backup, why not Mett? (although considering what happened to Texas backup Gilbert's career after he had to go in the BSCCG vs Bama, maybe it wouldnt have been a good idea) its not like Lee hasnt already had opportunites to prove himself vs Bama... Lee vs Bama 2011 - 43% completion, 3.4 yards/att 0 TD, 2 INT, 14.5 QB rating career - 24 of 58 (41% completion), 5.4 yards/att, 1 TD, 7 INT, 41.4 QB rating
If you are going to continue to post these numbers on every thread, I'm going to continue to know them down. Those numbers are the result of suck ass pass play calls. Lee could have executed the McCarron plan of last monday to perfection!! But .. that pass plan doesn't exists in CLM's playbook ... and it never has!! All he knows is down the field .. or that stupid WR screen that NEVER goes anywhere!!
People always want to bring up his stats against him but let's break it down. In 2008, as a redshirt freshman against the #1 team in the country (Bama) he threw 1 TD and 4 INTs. Bad numbers but LSU scored 21 points and lost in OT. I would MUCH rather than than getting embarrassed 21-0 with no semblance of an offense at all. Lee used to throw a lot of picks, but that happens when you throw the ball downfield and he was moving LSU's offense in ways that Jefferson could only dream of. Plus, it kept the defense honest and helped our running game out a lot in that game. It's the Tebow effect. Steelers stacked the box and Tebow made them pay for it by throwing deep on man-to-man coverage. We had no such QB that could keep the defense honest in the last 2 games. Pitiful for the #1 team to go out like that.
And also what gets me is how hypocritical Les was not to pull JJ after he pulled Lee in the first game. It was the right call in the first game because Bama hadn't planned for JJ that much and it could have been the right call in the 2nd game but we'll never know.
OMG I'm going to lose my mind. I'm not going to fall for it this time. If you want to know what i think of this stat reference the other 20 threads where it appears. It's haunting me now. If we going off JL's freshman year then he shouldn't be allowed to play ever against anyone. What does the kid have to do to prove that isn't him anymore??
If we went by freshmen stats Flynn and Mauck probably would have never seen the field. Definitely a flawed argument and I'm not sure why anyone would use it.
TF continues to use it ... cause he's got nothing!! He ..and several others here can't fathom the fact that JLee was not half as bad as they would like to think he was ... and that JLee playing under an offensive system that utilized the short quick passes that he did as well as anyone would have shut up his critics big time. I also can't help but think that the "JJ Issue" .. the favoritism or whatever you want to call it that Miles had for JJ, was not an emotional factor in Lee's play in the first Bama Game. Lee KNEW that Miles was chomping at the bit to put JJ back as starter ..and that he would be looking for the opportunity. As noted by Gilbeaux .... we had a 2 QB system when Lee was starting .. the minute JJ was promoted .. it became a 1 QB system ... and it was 1 that sucked badly.
Having a great defense and great special teams has masked the fact that our offense is bland, unimaginative, predictable, and....well like it has the last 4 years.
I think this is a terrific thread and so agree with what many have said. I finally jumped on the CLM's bandwagon and was totally sold out, 100 percent for most of the year and have said so in this forum. I also said how proud I was of him and this team before this last game. People could never understand why I wasn't totally on the Miles bandwagon sooner and we kinda had a debate about it a few weeks ago. It is things like this that make me step back and ask myself, what the heck is going on here? I have watched college and pro football my entire life and I have never seen a coach not make changes in a game when things are going as badly as they were on Saturday Night. Jordan Jefferson may be able to do multiple things but he did nothing in the first half of the Arkansas, Georgia games or the biggest game of his career, WE should have seen this coming. The much improved JJ we heard about is no different than the one in years past. The same bad offense we had in 2009, 2010. To be honest, I don't remember any highlights from him at QB except for the Bowl games with the exception of breaking a long run against Tennessee, I do remember some of the bowl performances including this last one now! It could be just me, I don't remember those good games during the season, I am being humble here because when writing no one knows your demeanor, I am open to anyone refreshing my memory. I have always loved Les the person but I questioned his hire, I am happy that he has done such an outstanding job maintaining the program including his and our record overall since he got here. I am still behind him as the coach, not sold out like I was. This is all very Ironic to me. I said no matter what the other day but I thought CLM's had changed somewhat, I didn't think he would do something like he did Saturday Night in such a big game. I thought finally he played his best players if he needed too and would replace a QB if need be. One game does not make or break a season, a coach should not be fired or hired over it. There are many games in a season but what happened Saturday night is inexcusable. Having said this I am excited about next year, I think next year is our year. I think the team will learn from this and will be more hungry than this year. Maybe the distractions and the QB controversy hurt us more than anyone realized this year. Maybe that was the problem with not only this game but the two before it. Remember Gary Crowton's comments? Maybe he was correct?
