No matter what, Miles was gonna take heat. If he sticks with Benton, he loses the no. 1 recruit in the state, probably to bama (how's that gonna play?) or he cuts Benton loose, and takes heat that way. Randle can give us a minimum of 3, possibly 4 years, and he's never had academic problems. Benton, even if eligible, might not have stayed that way, we may have gotten one season out of him. The same people who cheered Miles for cutting Perriloux lose and complained when we stuggled at QB would have had a field day with this. I'm siding with my coach on this one. :milesmic::milesmic::milesmic::milesmic:
in no way shape or form would i stop supporting miles if he chose the "right" thing and sent RR packing. win at all costs??? have you met the SEC?? of course it's win at all costs. i was one of the ones who praised miles for kicking off RP. everyone said that it may mean an extra loss or two....or three but some of those same people weren't so understanding after last season. very few people actually wanted to pay that bill when it was due. another 7-5 season wouldn't get miles fired but he'd know where the door was.
I personally am glad that Miles did what was best for LSU. It's a terrible situation and I feel bad for Benton but he's not exactly an innocent bystander in this situation. If his academic situation was in order, it wouldn't be an issue. I wish him all the best next year at Auburn.
:geaux: Again, I agree it's a crappy situation but it is what it is. Benton didn't take care of business and that contributed to what we have here. Miles is not the big villian here. He was put in a no win situation. Someone was going to lose here. Benton, Miles, RR or somebody. Benton is not going to LSU but at least he has a scholly so it's not a total loss for him, although I'll be surprised if he stays academically qualified. Having said that, had he just done his school work he'd be a junior going into next season or at worst a redshirt sophmore and RR wouldn't be a factor here. Who's fault is that? Can't blame that on Miles. Miles stood by him and held a spot for two years and Benton didn't take advantage of it. How many chances do you get? Maybe the lesson to be learned here is to take care of your business in the classroom so you don't but yourself in these types of situations. :LSU231:
I didn't say he could sell it to tigernation. It's not about that. It is about what he did to Benton, and when he did it. Honestly you should just stop there and let it go. I get that you don't understand it. Losing either is not good, and Miles would have had a bigger uproar for losing Randle, so is avoiding that the purpose? Is that the line Miles uses next year in the home of a recruit? "Well Mrs X, I want you to know that I am going to mentor your son, make sure he gets an education, and becomes a man. I want you to put your trust in me because I am going to stick by him. Unless a better player comes along a few hours before NSD, in which case he can go anywhere else he likes." Yeah I can see your confusion. And it is because you are looking at it from the viewpoint of a fan, and not a parent or recruit. Come up with a more relevant analogy. Taking Benton does not equate with laying off workers to save your company. Another overblown analogy. Miles took away an offer to a 5* wr the night before NSD. I have never seen it happen before. Not the point, and I clearly addressed this already. Fans will always point fingers unless it is to their benefit. Just as you are doing now. Addressed this also. The same as accepting graft in your politicians, because it is inherent in the system it must be ok.
you are not calmer than me on this one my friend. :yelwink2: i think our fundamental disagreement lies in that i think miles did what was best for the program and that you do not and think it will hurt us in recruiting in the future. of course i'm looking at this as a fan. i'm not the parent of a recruit. parents of a recruit want to know what your school can do for my son and me. parents will remember your facilities and your ability to get my son on television and into the NFL so he can buy me a house someday. they won't remember the incident that happened that one time that one year to that one kid. the fact that you don't assign any blame on the RR camp for this means that we won't see eye to eye on this no matter how much we back and forth this thing.
They will when every other coach recruiting against you is using it, and they will. Make a deal at the crossroads and Legba is always biting you in the azz.
not with me. wouldnt matter who our guy was. being a hypocrite is fd up and something Id expect different of you, young man. but you wear the glasses too, unfortunately.
