Keeping your word must be rationalized? No, I would call that an explanation. And sometime doing what is right(as in keeping your word), doesn't always benefit you. In fact, sometimes it is painful, but it is always the right thing to do. Evidenced by the number of negative things people have said about Bell and Jackson for not retaining their commitments to us, in the eleventh hour. 1. There is no doubt what might have happened to Miles had he lost Randle. 2. There is no doubt that the catalyst is the Randle family. 3. There is no doubt that the majority of the fanbase is making excuses for it, because they prefer one recruit over another. 4. There is no doubt the decision rested solely with Miles. I will enjoy taking note of all the people who so quickly slam other programs and coaches for screwing over recruits, all the while making excuses for our own. If I have personally done that, I won't be doing it in the future. I am simply disappointed.
If the situation was reverse, people would be hollering at Miles on why did we let Randle go and keep a guy who has trouble qualifing. There no need pondering on what Mile should or shouldn't have done. Whats done is done. We can just mark this time down and in the very near future we will be able to look back and say to ourselves " IT WAS A GOOD MOVE" or "WE SCREWED OURSELF". My biggest worry is that Miles has burn a bridge at Bastrop. Bastrop's coach Brad Bradshaw was very unhappy the way this went down. This has happen to LSU coaches in the past, where the coach would not have a good relationship with certain high school coaches and those coaches were very influential in the kids not coming to LSU. I hope this is not the case with Bastrop. But one thing you can be sure of, all rival college coaches will use this against LSU.
Well, this could change, but everything I've heard was Bradshaw is upset with Randle's dad, not LSU or Miles. Hopefully that won't change. My biggest concern would be how this adds to any negative recruiting. I suppose coaches will find a way to tear down a school if they want to, but this might get a recruits parents attention.
I don't think so, SabanFan. I love Miles, have been a fan of his since day one, but I don't like how this was handled--if, in fact, it was handled to way it appears.
Yep, if you fail to qualify for two straight years and then drop out of prep school and flirt with a rival school including taking an official visit . . . that dastardly Les just might reconsider offering you a third time. Especially if you make a private pact with a former teammate not to attend the same school when you know he is LSU's top recruit.
Ahh, so that is why Les took the offer away? Pity it took him so long to reach that conclusion.
I agree that Randle's dad is the blame for this. Kids and their parents are scared of competition these days. What ever happen to the philosophy that if you felt like you were the best you welcome all challengers. If I'm the best at something, I have the confidence to prove it against anyone. Now some lame people may think thats called cocky, but to me if you prove it then that is greatness. Now the question is, "Does Randle's dad not show much confidence in his son, that he can't be better than Benton"? I hope thats not the case. I understand a father wants the best for his son. Who doesn't? But you have to let them grow up and take on all challengers.
