yeah a lot of people are mad about how the LSU coaching staff hurt our reputation with Barbe High in Lake Charles, which has one of the best high school baseball programs in the nation. since 2001, they've had 22 guys get taken in the MLB draft, an average of 2.2 a year, including 3 taken in the last draft. you can see the whole list on their webpage, as well as how they've been District Champs like every year for the last 20 years, have been nationally ranked like every year for the last 20 years, won the 5A State Championship in 98, 00, 01, 06, 08, have set all these Louisiana state records, etc: welcome to Barbe Baseball well their coach for the last 25 years is Glenn Cecchini, and both of his sons, Garin and Gavin were superstars that committed to LSU (Garin for our last recruiting class and Gavin for our current recruiting class) then things went south between LSU and coach Cecchini and his two sons from a April 11, 2011 article: Ole Miss lands elite shortstop
true. there was a kid from lake charles that there was some nastiness with over pro contracts etc, and it spilled down to his younger brother who was a standout but soured the whole family on lsu because his younger brother caught the 'tude too. he ended up going to ole miss. when i heard about it, the article just kept saying "they" in reference to lsu. i was kinda shocked thinking it was mainieri. maybe it was grewe instead. too bad cause it did cause a homegrown kid to go to the black bears. edit: i post too slow. the above article referenced is the one i remember and was talking about.
I know nothing of this topic or any of the details (so ignore the following) but maybe it's better that we didn't sign Garin and Gavin. The father's name is Glenn so maybe they were trying to continue the "GC" initials. However, the nearly identical names they chose for the kids leads me to believe the family may be a little nutty.
here's some excerpts from a long article on why Grewe was fired by Scott McKay, who used to publish Purple & Gold magazine and Bayou Bengal Blog basically it says he was doing a poor job as our pitching coach and was doing a poor job as our recruiting coordinator (two of our last three recruiting classes, our current juniors and sophomores, weren't even ranked in the Top 25 according to Collegiate Baseball) it also says that Javi will be gone soon as well Big Changes Afoot For LSU Baseball
