Either Peterson or Patterson would be interesting but I don't think either is leaving. Peterson has never coached east of the Rockies and while TCU is a private school and doesn't divulge the coaches salaries I'm pretty sure the Horned Frog's billionaire boosters will do whatever it takes to keep Patterson

for one, we aren't going to know whether or not we made a good coaching hire until he actually starts coaching games for us

imagine being in Clemson shoes in Nov 1998 when they fired their coach. I would imagine all the Clemson fans were clamoring for Tommy Bowden, who had just gone 11-0 at Tulane in his 2nd year as the Tulane head coach (and was also the son of the greatest coach in college football at the time)

One of Clemson's other options that year was Nick Saban, who had just finished his 4th year at Mich State, going:
    1995 Michigan State 6–5–1
    1996 Michigan State 6–6
    1997 Michigan State 7–5
    1998 Michigan State 6–6

Well Clemson got their man in Tommy Bowden! Imagine all the celebrating and euphoria in Clemson nation! Well this is how that worked out for them:

    Tommy Bowden at Clemson
    1999 Clemson 6–6
    2000 Clemson 9–3 (the excitement!)
    2001 Clemson 7–5
    2002 Clemson 7–6
    2003 Clemson 9–4
    2004 Clemson 6–5
    2005 Clemson 8–4
    2006 Clemson 8–5
    2007 Clemson 9–4
    2008 Clemson 3–3
