youd probably have to make concessions for the era to keep pettit there. i dont think swift, or thomas would see the floor because of big holes in their game (and having singleton on there is a joke). williams should probably be starting forward. and id put lloreda and dupree and perhaps ceasar on the list.
Bill Russell of the Cs has stated that Bob Pettit is the best power forward he ever has seen play. Better than the mailman.
why do you want to listen to what that traitor says?:yelwink2: anyway, thats why i included "probably"
No you wouldn't. A very big man for his time, Pettit would still be a big man today at 6-9. He took LSU to the final four--Shaq never did, Maravich never did. Pettit was the NBA all-time leading scorer when he retired. Maravich wasn't, Shaq won't be. He was rookie of the year and a five time MVP. He was the first pro to score 20,000 points and he is still third in rebounds (12,850) after Chamberlain and Russell (who he competed against). He was an NBA All star in all 11 of his seasons, starting in 10 of them. No retired player in NBA history other than Pettit and Michael Jordan has averaged more than 20 points per game in every season they've played. Bob Pettit could not only play in the SEC today as a power forward, he could play in the NBA today. Yes, Maravich remains the greatest college basketball player of all time, but Pettit was a far better professional basketball player. And Pettit could definitely play with Shaq and Maravich any day at any level.
gotta disagree on this one. probably the hardest working Tiger i ever saw on a basketball court. no one would ever out hustle vernell. every team of superstars needs someone who'll bring the lunchpail and do the dirty work. paul silas = vernell singleton
Shaq has always played for good teams ahd has 4 rings in 6 NBA finals appearances. Pete mostly played for bad teams Also Shaq comes across as a lovable big guy in his commercials
We can thank Dale Brown for Shaq not reaching the final four. That first year with Shaq, Roberts and CJ...very bad they didnt go further. Difficult to blend them all together no doubt, but even so. As for Pettit being the all time leading scorer and Shaq not being. Umm, first of all, Shaq wasnt a ball hog. Secondly he had to play with one of the NBAs all-time biggest ball hogs. Thirdly, nobody, ever, received the defensive pressure Shaq did. I remember one of the years the Lakers beat the Kings in the playoffs and the Kings were routinely collapsing 4, sometimes even 5 players on Shaq. Fourthly, Shaq has more points now than Pettit. Fifthly...well I could keep going but you get the point.
