You are describing a young quarterback, not an incompetent quarterback. If we had any upperclassmen quarterbacks, Jennings would be a reserve and Harris would be redshirting and both would be learning the job as understudies and might start as juniors. That is the way it usually works. What you see now is what we saw in 2008 . . . a team forced to use young quarterbacks before they are ready.

Why you imagine that Harris is any better than Jennings is not indicated by his performances against SEC competition. We need both of these quarterbacks.

Well, you have that backwards. All players are responsible for learning the goddamn plays. Coaches can only do so much.

He's not stupid, but he is green as grass. Greener than Jennings. Be patient.

Thomas was forced to move after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor.

We're movin' on up, in the West Site,
But can we get a piece of the Pie?

Great win for the program. There's much to be said about parody in college football, and the SEC west has more than most can stand. Congrats tigers on a well deserved, hard fought win.

You mean like a parody of Les Miles or do you mean parity of teams like in the NFL?

While your defense of Jennings is admirable and possibly correct, I will take the under.

He seems to have happy feet and misses too many passes. I don't think you can teach "processing quickly" and he does not seem to process at all. The deal appears to be, if the play is throwing a pass to player A at point X, then he attempts to pass to A at X.

I hope I am wrong, and not saying he is a bad guy, but in high school the best athlete is always a winner.

In college, and even more so in the pros, they have to be able to process, sort, decide, and throw. Some of that is not teachable, some of it is.

One thing is for sure, we will see.

I don't expect perfect play from the younger player, but without it, our upside is limited. But the real fear, is based on Coach's past. It the wagon is hitched to Jennings, and Jennings never comes up to speed, we will ride that wagon to oblivion. Dread of the potential future, not so much the present, is what scares people, I think.

Well, my point was that young quarterbacks are like that and we need to be patient with Jennings. The other quarterback is even younger and had trouble with "left" and "right" the last game he played. Right now Jennings is getting it done and is further along, that's all. Both have room for improvement and will continue to improve. Jennings has more of his rookie mistakes behind him than Harris does. But that could change.

It seems like most young QBs come into college as either great athletes or great passers on the high school level but they have no knowledge of the finer points of the game and of running an offense or reading defenses and going through their progressions. First, most of their high school coaches problably aren't capable of teaching them that. They prepare them to do what is necessary to use their skills to win games. The jobs of high school coaches depend on winning as much as they do in college or the NFL.

I have some CD videos that I copied of Pete Maravich teaching the basics of basketball. Its called "Pete Maravich Homework Basketball." Pete teaches how to do all the dribbling, shooting, passing and ball handling drills the he did while growing up. Every kid who seriously wants to be a better basketball player should have those videos.

As far as I know there is nothing like that to teach quarterback skills. But there could be. The person I can think of who would be uniquely qualified to make such a series of teaching videos would be Peyton Manning. Peyton was a student of the game even in high school and even at that young age he was dedicated to learning the craft of playing quarterback. And it didn't hurt to have a Dad who was one of the better QBs in the NFL to help him learn to break down film and learn to read defenses. I don't know if Peyton would have the interest in doing something like that to help young players but I would think that if the idea was put into his head be might be all for it. Maybe he would have the time for the project in the off season or after he retires.

@LSUDad you know everybody. Do you know anybody who might mention this idea to Peyton or even Archie and Eli. It would be something they could give to the attendees of the Manning Passing Academy.

Pete Maravich filmed "Homework Basketball" at my high school gym during my senior year, just months before he died. So, I went to school with the kids in the video. I graduated with a guy who looked a bit like a young Maravich, and when they were casting for the movie, "The Pistol," they looked at him for the part. Alas, he could not act.

Every coach should use those videos to teach their players. When one of my nephews was playing basketball in the 6th grade I tried to give a copy to his coach but he was an ignorant ass and wasn't interested
