Don, all those who are down on Les Miles need to examine the record. LSU fans need to understand the importance of a long-term head coach. Don't you know that Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden had bumps along the road. Les Miles has done nothing but win at LSU. He is the winningest coach in any five-year period. Last season the Tigers came within a play or two of a 10-2 possibly 11-1 season. LSU fans too often show their ignorance on the nature of big time college football. Do they realize how monumentally difficult it is to win a national championship? Do they realize how monumentally difficult it is to run a clean program? Do they realize how monumentally difficult it is to oversee a multi-million dollar organization, coach athletes and keep them on the straight and narrow, plus deal the media and the often-times idiotic fan/blogger criticism? Tiger fans need to embrace what we have and what has been accomplished under the direct leadership of Les Miles. I guess they want to go back to the Curley/DiNardo/Stovall days. Thanks, A daily reader.
Yep But the Ole Miss game is still on people's mind and it is time for this staff to have some really good games against a top team. I expect it this year. :tigereye:
Great read indeed. People need to realize that college football is a zero-sum game. One team of highly touted recruits coached by a multi-millionaire cannot win a game without another team of highly touted recruits coached by a multi-millionaire losing that game. We can't all win the SEC every year, or the National Championship, and that's what makes it to sweet when we do. Crazy that the owner of 1/3 of our championships, the 2nd most bowl victories, and the 3rd most wins all time is wanted out by some "fans". No wonder we only have two coaches to ever see their tenure last more than 7 years. I really think that LSU would be better off without a large percentage of its "fanbase".
I read it too, this morning. Great points, but most fans wouldn't care if Satan was the head coach, as long as they're team won. Winning trumps all, and most don't care how it gets done as long as it gets done, nor do they care what pains are gone through to get them their wins. Fans are like 3 yr olds, they don't care nor understand what dad's and mom's go through at work to bring home the paycheck, they just want their STUFF.
Amen - 3 year olds and that is why I can't listen to BR talk radio Going to love seeing Les move out with a great team and listen to people talk about the only game he can win is when he out talents people. :tigereye:
I've never understood how Miles could even be close to the hotseat. Before I even thought about going to LSU, I watched the Ole Miss game. At the time I told my roommate that the FG team probably wouldn't have got the kick off anyway. Of course, leading up to that required a 4th and 26 completion. If anyone is going to get angry at Miles for messing up the FG chance, they have to at least acknowledge that they made a heck of a play just to get into FG range. Lastly, I don't think that the loss affected anything in terms of going to a worse bowl or costing them a spot in the SEC standings. They added a loss, but still ended up in 3rd place. Florida still was going to get the second BCS spot, and I don't think that 3 SEC teams would have made it even with a 2 loss LSU.
Conferences are limited to 2 BCS berths each. So no matter what, we were never making a BCS bowl last season after losing to Bama and Florida.
