Orgeron was always the first guy in, full of energy, and he'd work out on the field just before practice -- sit-ups, push-ups, chin-ups, squat thrusts. One day, one of Fetterly's assistants stopped him.

"Coach, you're in good shape. Why do you do all this?" he asked.

Orgeron looked stunned. To take a day off would mean falling behind, and that's not something Orgeron would ever do.

"Son," he said, "the day I can't whoop a man's ass is the day I don't get out of bed."

Oeaux is responsible for the wrestling career of The Rock. At Miami he told Duane Johnson "If you can't play any better than that you should just wrestle like your granddaddy did."

    Izzy,

That’s a great story ... Here’s another amazing true story of the 1977 LAHS State champs from South LaFourche

    https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_f1112dd4-f62b-11e6-b464-b7f1ed3cdc6e.html

Here’s what I know about that team ...

First ... A little background about them
I’m a Gridiron Club Member since 1996 in the DiNardo Era (Along with my pop/CaCa’s bro) when they first started the Gridiron Club ...

Pop remained a member until he died in 1999 never meeting Satan in 2000. Of all the coaches we had the pleasure to meet during these years of Bashes and Practices, none have been better fit for LSU than Ed Orgeron. Sad that the Bayou Bash is being discontinued by the Gridiron Club due to NCAA newly permitted early signing periods in December

At the last bash, I met lots of the old timers and brought up the ‘75 Jamboree Game to Oeaux to see if he remembered ... Hebert was killed in that game with lotsa vicious hits and they were shut out ... 28-0 ... Oeaux admitted “Y’all beat the living shit outta us” ... Hebert (Oeaux’s cousin) got killed in that game with vicious hits and we shut them out 28-0 in just ONE HALF OF PLAY ... Jamborees were early season warm up games at that time ... this only two years before that South LaFourche team did win state in 1977 ...

We asked Oeaux how that team did it?
That one team one heartbeat 1977 story AINT BULLSHIT ... That was his answer ... He coaches the same way that team played!

It’s something 100 Sabans could never have.

It was a time when the Archbishop Shaws et al began WIDESPREAD STEROID USE ... Esp the 1976 and 1977 Shaw Team with that piece of work John Fourcade ...

A few years back, I asked Bobby Hebert if any of the South LaFourche Guys used steroids like the Shaw guys did ... But I’ve never asked Oeaux and would never do it ... Bobby remembered the Shaw guys coming back one year later all juiced up and bulked up on steroids ... He said the So LaFourche Guys never used steroids in 1977 ... I believe him

That So LaFourche team that got whipped 28-0 by Jesuit in 75 beat the steroid-juiced monsters of Shaw just two years later when they nearly went undefeated ...

    That’s an amazing tale ...

A lotta heart can Geaux a long way !!!
