I disagree with this statment however, in the sense that if a change is made we will all forget how seemingly long this seemed to take. If I recall correctly with OC situation after Jimbo left, it seemed to take forever...yet he came up with Crowton! However, this statement is correct if he lets this go on and makes no change...he would just compound the problem. Again, I believe if he was to make no change he would have come out and said so and ended all of this speculation. One reason he may not be commenting more than he has is if he decided (or has to) to wait til after the bowl game, then what good would it do to announce it now. The players would know Mal and Pev were lame ducks for sure, and they already seem to have lost control of them as it is. Just a thought.... :geaux:
The only reason I can think of why Coach hasn't done anything yet is recruiting. That and the bowl game. All of the coaches are on the recruiting trail right now. This bowl game may very well be the most important that Miles has coached us in...not counting the MNC game last year. A win would mean a lot right now. We do not want to lose a single recruit due to lack of stability at our most important coaching positions. Coach may want to keep things the same while coaching the team up for the game against Ga Tech. If a new coach, or coaches, were hired right now something would have to give. Either the focus would have to be off of recruiting and or there would be many distractions during our bowl practice. Maybe Miles wants all three things to take place...in their own time. Shore up recruiting...prepare the team the best we can to defeat Ga Tech...and third, take care of the coaching changes. We do not know what has been said by Coach Miles to his current staff. For all we know, he may very well have already told the other coaches their fate. He may have already decided on his new D coordinator and that guy may be coaching another team in their bowl game....my point is the new guy (assuming there will be one) may not be able to help us right now anyway. Time will tell. The only mistake would be not doing anything about the current coaching situation. I don't believe this is an option for Miles and expect, later rather than sooner, changes will be made.
If Les wasn't going to make changes, he would have said so by now, obviously. Better to take his time and get the right person, than to get impatient and hire the first available DC that's out of a job. Like he did with Crowton, Les is likely to steal a top DC from another school. These negotiations take time and must be conducted covertly.
I will second this sentiment wholeheartedly. LSU fans suffering from anxiety or prematurely selecting the wrong DC? Hmmm......
Does anyone think Miles sits at his desk calling people one by one and asks them if they want to be our new DC? Does anyone think that LSU hasn't been contacted by potential DC's or their agents several weeks ago? LSU is one of the top jobs in the country that can propel the right candidate into stardom. This is a HOT time for recruiting. LSU has a staff of people sifting through potential candidates, making calls, talking to agents, making notes about resumes, etc. All this weeded out information is then distilled to Miles wherever he may be in the country. Seeing that he is on the road for recruiting, this gives him the opportunity to meet with any number of candidates in person. Until Miles announces that there will be no change at DC, I'm going to assume he understands his future at LSU probably depends on making a good hire here and will get it done. The guy has brought in good coordinators in his four years here and he's earned the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Chill.
I tend to agree. This is an important decision that cannot and should not be rushed. Also, there is no question that recruiting has slowed things down some. I doubt very seriously if a change will be made before the bowl game. I suspect the search for a DC will heat up during dead week.
exactly. and everyone seems to think its 100% miles not wanting information out yet. that may be the case, but we may already have someone lined up who is still coaching, and THEY dont want it out until after their bowl game. obviously, i dont know if this is the case, but it is a possibility. all i know is i feel sure that a change will be made. but how its handled isnt going to be done in a way that is just to appease anxious fans.
Why worry over something we have absolutely no control over? I'll start worrying if we're not 4-0 (@Wash-Vandy-ULL-@Moo St.) leading into this sequence of games (@GA-FL-AU-TuL-@BAMA) in the schedule next year.
