Found this earlier. Great breakdown of the LSU Auburn game by ex MSU qb Matt Wyatt. Sorry if it’s been posted.
Agreed. The more than fair scrutiny from the article is concerning the lack of sustained drives, 8, 10, 12 play drives. We have more times than not had a big play to help get us an easy touchdown. Of course you want the big splash plays, but we need the consistency of sustained drives mixed in.
Luckily we made that game winning FG watching the Auburn player making that illegal move to try to block it. Had Cole pushed that ball slightly to the right, who knows. We could have gotten screwed yet again at Auburn on a kick. How do the Refs who are watching down the line of scrimmage miss that? It was egregious.
I'm not sure Bama has been tested at all yet. We should find out more about them this weekend though. Edit: Damn, I wish we had their schedule!
Maybe the refs saw it but since the kick was good and time had expired they didn't call it. What were we going to do? Accept the penalty and kick it again?
Interesting read. Metrics are what they are. As someone wrote above, it doesn't take intangibles into account. It also doesn't account for improvement going forward.
LSU gutted it out more than played really well on offense. Anybody can see that. However, there is something to gutting it out. Shows some character and grit. IMO, you have two weeks to improve before the gauntlet of Florida, Georgia, Miss St, and Bama. That's gonna decide the season.
Penalty is a penalty regardless of the outcome of the play... Call it and then work it out after the play...
