Special teams---Incredible unit overall. Without PP's kick returns, LSU is STILL an AWESOME special teams unit. From the PK to Punters to coverage on kicks and punts, absolutely one of the best in the nation. Add PP to the mix returning kicks, and it becomes THE best. --- Surely all the credit goes to the special teams coach. Defense---Incredible unit as well. LSU has 9 guys on the DL that are capable of stepping in for a spell and dominating. The secondary is coming on strong. So talented, so young, and clearly getting better each week. They will be a force for years to come. --- Surely all the credit goes to the DCoordinator Offense---Playcalling is TERRIBLE. Execution in the passing game is TERRIBLE. The QB is digressing, showing the occasional flash of good play, but always nixing it later in the game. Overall, the offense looks disoriented and confused. The only bright spots are the running game and the improvement in the OL. --- Surely all the blame goes to the...head coach? I don't get it. Miles is the HC, so yeah...the buck stops there. But why is he given no credit for the defense and the ST? And on offense, why is he given no credit for the running game and OL improvement? I mean, I would have to assume that if he has anything to do with the hands on side of coaching, it would be with the OL and running game. Why is it that, if it's bad, it's on Miles. But if it's good, he doesn't get the credit?
The O/L line is NOT improved. Wait til the Florida game when we actually play a great defense in a hostile environment. Then come talk to me about how improved our O-line really is. Yes, Miles gets credit for hiring Chavis. He gets the credit for recruiting a lot of talented kids that Chavis is putting to good use. But let's not mince words. Miles is an O-line coach by trade. He has his hands on the offensive side of the ball. And what has been disappointing the majority of the time he has been here? The O-line. That should easily be our strength.
Miles has a very good Defensive coach and Special teams coach, who, because they are having lots of success, tend to naturally bounce any criticism of the present inadequacies-The Offense, and Offensive line on Miles. As the Head Coach, he is ultimately responsible for the actions of his team. The WHOLE team. Things are great in 2 facets. Only Miles can change the Offense. Why he isn't doing so continues to puzzle the heck out of the sell out crowds in Tiger Stadium, and thousands more watching at home. We can only hope Miles wakes up before this season goes down hill fast.
I agree the OL has been disappointing. But La Tech and others owned our OL last year. The OL is improved, I didn't say the OL was dominant. Do you not agree there is improvement on the OL?? From last season???
Based on the defenses we have played so far, which have to be characterized as mediocre, then I would say no. Too many penalties, run blocking is inconsistent. Pass blocking is inconsistent. I mean maybe it's improved just a hair, but to flat out say it's improved? No.
You would agree that if we keep hitting our heads against a wall (I think you used similiar words to characterize our QB play) that we are in for a rude awakening against an excellent defense in Florida in a hostile environment? And it's only 2 week away.
