You're kidding, right? Until JJ proves it, he's not a true passing threat. He often choses to run the ball too early during a play and doesnt make the D respect LSU's passing game.

Not real impressed with Shepherd as a WR either.

And really, do we need JJ in the red zone. During the game, the commentators pointed out that in the red zone we've scored 19 of 20 times, with 80% of those opportunities ending in TDs. It isn't broken, don't fix it. We have a strong running game without JJ, he doesnt add much especially when you consider what you lose taking Lee out.

I'd give Lee a C- today at best. Several missed opportunities and some of the throws that were actually completed would have never worked against a quality team.

I must have missed the game by game stats on his QB rating late last season.
Lets look at his passing stats late in the season (from lsusports.net).

    vs Arky - 16-27-0, 0 TDs
    vs OM - 13-17-1, 1 TD
    vs ULM - 4-10-0, 0 TDs
    vs Bama - 10-13-0, 1 TD

I don't see anything there that screams threat. Pedestrian, but not threatening.

This is Sheps 3rd year and they still haven't figured out that he can't catch nor have they figured out any other way to get him involved with the offense. His ability to run with the ball in open space has been totally wasted. We have a true freshman WR that should be listed as the #1 WR on the team. Not sure what Billy Gonzalez has been doing the last three years, but it hasn't been developing the talent we have at WR. Lee looked off today. The wind was tough on the long passes, but his short passes were poorly thrown for the most part. OL looked bad in the first half. Was good to see some young RB's get a chance and rest some of the regulars although I was surprised we didn't see more of Ware, Was he injured early in the game?

Defense looked good as usual. Honey badger never ceases to amaze. Florida will be a much tougher test, I hope the offense is up to the challenge. I absolutely don't like rotating QB's although the goal line with JJ was a good call with as bad as the running game had been up to that point. I was surprised that we couldn't line up and blow Kentucky off the ball, they are not a good team. Makes me really worry about the Bama game. Playcalling was very very bland. Hopefully the coaching staff is holding back for the bigger games. If not, just put 8 in the box and double Beckham when he is in the game. Still a 28 point win over an SEC team when the offense played poorly is a good thing. If they can get the O on track the sky is the limit.

No passing threat comment means no threat at all. Which is a generalization.

    vs Bama 10-13 77% completions Rating = 193.41
    vs OM 13-17 76% 254 yards Rating = 209.62
    vs Arky 59% rating = 116.51
    vs A&M 53% 3TDs = 164.05

So yea that is a ridiculous statement. I am in no way saying that JJ should start over Lee if that is what you are taking from it but just pointing out the obvious.

I never said we needed JJ in the redzone but he will be used. Remember the MSU game where we had to kick all those FGs inside the 20. Ask Sherman if he was a passing threat last year.

I don't have to ask Sherman, I watched every LSU game that I could last year. Feel lukewarm about JJ but think he could be a useful weapon if used properly.

Well then you know he showed a passing threat and even threw for multiple TDs. I get what you are saying and don't disagree completely but he is not just a running threat when he comes into a game and opposing coaches don't look at it that way either. Hell, even heard Bama fans a little more scared of JJ than Lee this week on the radio. They said they have played QBs like Lee many times but JJ had them on their heels some last year. I don't agee 100% with their statements FWIW.

I don't see him as the starter or should be. Lee earned that. I want more from our passing game like any other fan. I think we are on the same page.

Izzy - do you have any stats on missed tackles today? I heard we had 17 missed tackles last week vs WVU and it seemed to me that there were many missed opportunities today as well.

The Oregon game was phenomenal with the crisp, hard, open field tackles against and incredibly shifty offense. I remember watching the first two games and just laughing that our Defense was hitting so quick and so hard. Like everything all the time!

Does anyone else see this as a threatening trend as we step deeper into hardcore SEC play?

If so, why is this happening?

I'm very happy with JJ playing backup duty and even think that if he gets more opportunity to play an occasional series (maybe even take a few snaps within a series) and when we have a decisive lead (I feel like Lee should have played a few less series, with JJ the benefactor) that he has the potential to be a bigger threat than Lee.

That said, he is a senior and has had ample time to prove his worth. I just hope our coaches don't screw up the QB situation this season. We are doing fine with Lee and anything more than gingerly introducing JJ would be a mistake. I suppose we may be on the same page and I appreciate someone playing devil's advocate against the majority (something I often do).
