QB = D- Jefferson was 5 for 13 for 30 yards and 1 TD with a QB Rating of 83.2. Only had 1 effective run all night that resulted in a first down. Otherwise that element of his game was shut down as well. The only thing keeping this from an F grade was the limited number of attempts (thank God) and the 1 TD pass he did throw. He handed the ball off well. RB = A- A combined 28 carries for 213 yards and 2 TDs (one more receiving). Kenny Hilliard is LSU's best running back and Alfred Blue might very well be our 2nd best. Spencer Ware, as great as he has been for LSU this season, probably needs to sit the championship game out if it's against Alabama. Hilliard should get all the between the tackles carries in that game. WR = C Hard to grade when you don't have a QB who can get you the ball. The edge blocking was outstanding again today. TE = C No catches, but the blocking by Clement was dominating all night long. O-line = B As bad as we were in the first half, we were that dominant in the 2nd half. LSU rushed for 202 yards the last 30 minutes of play. Overall Offense = C- A tale of two halves. No first downs in the first, accumulated 229 yards of total offense in the 2nd. Would love to write off the first half as an aberration, but it is what it is. And it won't serve us well vs a potential rematch with Alabama. D-line = A Was dominant almost the entire game. Murray was sacked 4 times and was made to look like a QB that doesn't have what it takes to make it in the SEC. LB = B Another pretty good outing by what has been the weakest part of the defense this season. This unit has played it's best ball late in the season. Great to see. DB = A Started off slowly, but stats don't lie. Murray was 16 of 40 for 162 yards (barely 4 yards per attempt). One slip by Claiborne on the lone big play by Georgia is the only blemish on an otherwise fantastic game for this unit (other than the TD pass, obviously). Overall Defense = A- It took an entire quarter to get things going, but once that happened, Georgia got only 90 yards of total offense from the beginning of the 2nd quarter until the 4 minute mark of the game when LSU finally put 2nd, 3rd and 4th stringers out on the field. Even that unit prevented a touchdown when it counted. Special Teams = A+ The best game of the year for this unit, and that's saying a lot. Georgia had 7 kick returns for a 13.4 yard average, as well as 8 punts for 0 yards. Brad Wing finally turned the field position around with a 60+ yard punt with no return. That's what finally got LSU going with the score 10-0 Georgia. A three and out from there and then it was Honey Badger time. Not only did he return 1 punt for a TD, he ran back another that set up a 19 yard drive for LSU. Just unbelievable play by a unit that we have come to expect nothing less from. Coaching = B Down 10-0, again this team did not flinch. The offensive game play was pretty horrendous in the first half. It nearly cost us going down as much as 24-0 with all the short fields Georgia was getting, but the defense held up their end while the special teams and offense would finally take over. You wondered if Lee was going to get in the game, and he did not. Obviously there must be something to all the chatter with his class work/grades, as it made no sense to keep Jefferson in this game.
I thought it was utterly embarrassing to send Lee out there just to down the ball. Again. It looks like punishment being handed out from Les.
I know it's a raw deal for JL, but can't say I agree with pulling JJ at this point in the season. You NEED A starting QB with confidence to beat Bama AGAIN and win a championship AGAIN. I think pulling JJ would do more harm than good. Besides, this team has definitely shown the ability to come back from slow and even horrendous starts to not only win, but dominate. Miles' handling of the QBs has led to a 13-0 SEC Championship and a date with destiny in the BCS Title game, so I won't question his logic or decision making now. I think they both deserve that from the fan base.
Was just about to say the exact same thing. JL is one of the MVPs of the season and deserves to go down as one of the GREAT LSU QBs. Period.
I think you're missing the point. It's a pretty bad move to put your 2nd string QB in for one play mop-up duty just to down the ball when he got you to 8-0. Very unlike Les.
