Lee threw some tight passes on a freaking ROPE! I do not get why some want to just the score up on people. I mean, we beat UF by 30 and people harp on play calling. Not many teams beat UF by 30..... Enjoy the ride, LSU is rollin...
They had the one TD to Debose but that was because Claiborne got all twisted up and fell to the ground.
It's not the 3rd and 1 runs I have a problem with. It's the 1st and 10 and 2nd and 5+ running plays I do. I'd even accept it if we were setting up the fake but did we fake a hand off on any of the 3rd and 1 plays? Did they call any 1st and 10 passes after we up by 2 scores? I can promise you this vanilla run, run, run offense isn't going to work against Alabama. We should be using these games to get reps on some other stuff. Heck the offensive line needs reps on how to pass block by the look of things. A few times the play was blown up by the oline not blocking out. Not that I care to argue over the coaching. It was still a win and I was happy with the outcome.
You've been playing this same song for weeks. Many fans keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, for the week when what we're doing won't work anymore. "It was still a win"? Yes, it was--a really dominating one.
So you were satisfied with the play calling? The point of this thread is to objectively grade each unit. I agreed with Issy's grades except on coaching. I'm giving my reason why. I don't go to every thread and complain about play calling but when in a thread that you're suppose to be critical I don't see anything out of the ordinary in doing it. I'm happy with the win, I'm happy with the players. I'm happy with the defensive coaching, but our offensive play calling is not up to par with the rest. I'd rather we work these problems out now before we face Bama (that's when the shoe will drop btw - Their LB's simply won't allow us to run as well as we have so far). It's the same song because it's our weakest link right now.
You seem to be pretty closed minded in your view. I don't know what the story is, but apparently you're still one of those that doesn't like our coach. Guess what...if COY was handed out right this minute, Miles would likely win it...possible challenger Dabo Sweeney. The coaching is not just good...it's BRILLIANT. If you can't see that, you need to take the blinders off. Have you ever stopped to think about why we only score 19 against MSU, but can put up an easy 41 against Florida? Because that's what they wanted to do...that's why. We could've scored 70 on KY...but what's the point? In fact, I have little doubt we could've scored 50+ in every game we've played...every one. But that just isn't what they wanted to do. In other words, so far this season...LSU has done whatever the hell they wanted to do against every single opponent they've faced. Why do more than it takes to win comfortably?? Why open it all up before we even come close to needing to?? You think the Bama gameplan is gonna be the same as the MSU gameplan? Every game we've played so far has been a glorified practice after the first half. It hasn't come close to biting us in the arse yet. We beat a good team by 30, only throwing 14 times. You obviously think we should've thrown the ball more? Why? We won by 30 friggin points!! We didn't even get our usual ST or D score. Our offense put 41 on the board against UF...throwing the ball 14 times. Jarrett Lee had 154 yds throwing the ball only 10 times personally. If we wanted to, we could've amassed 300 yds passing easily, and then STILL gained 200+ on the ground. We didn't need to. Even taking the gas off the pedal, we put up over 450 yds of offense against FLORIDA. How would it have bettered our chances against Bama to throw the ball more against UF? Lee was dead on balls accurate with the long ball, and could've picked UF's secondary apart with Randle all day long. There was no need to keep showing that... You talk about coaching? The coaches across the country sure noticed. Check the polls now. Enjoy it man! This is an AWESOME team, and AWESOME coaching staff, and an AWESOME time to be a Tiger fan!
Thank you -- well stated! CLM and staff know what they're doing. I'm sure there are some wrinkles we haven't seen yet. :geauxtige
I think miles will try and beat bama just how some of you say we can't. I think he will try and run the ball, playing lsu smashmouth, aginst bama. You have to play to your teams strength. Our strength is power running. Our passing game comes from teams stacking the box and biting on play action. We will have to make bama commit to stopping the run for our passing game to work. If our o- line gets a grade of A aginst bama , that means we win. Smashing your opponet in the mouth while running over them isn't vanilla.
