Relative to who we were playing, that was an A+ performance.

We hadn't eclipsed 400 yards all year long, we did 4 1/2 vs Florida.

Again, Brantley doesn't play defense for Florida.

A lil generous this week I see. Play-calling got very vanilla in the 2nd half. Run, run, run, punt for a couple series. We got stopped on 3rd and short a couple times so I can't see the O-line getting an A+, maybe an A- but there's not too much difference.

I base my grades on who we are playing.

If that was Kentucky, yep an A- no doubt.

Against Florida, an A+. What do you think they would grade their D-line?

No way special teams get a C.

    No. Way.

    Come on.

    I gave my explanation.

    No hit and run please.

    The plusses

    1. Pinned them deep back inside the 10 a couple of times, no punt returns by the dangerous Gators special teams
    2. Made all extra points and field goals
    3. Fake punt yielded a first down and got us a FG
    4. Kicked it deep every time except when against the wind and managed to kick it high on those occasions to avoid big returns

    The minuses

    1. Allowed Florida to start past midfield on one kick return
    2. Had a punt partially blocked
    3. Had another short-ish punt
    4. Did not get the punt/kick return going (by Florida's design)

Sounds like a C+ grading to me.

If I graded special teams without considering the place kicker, then it would have been a C or C-.

Yeah, I don't even know if you think it should be worse or better grading.

    Nice job, pops.

The wind gave the LSU kicker Hell on a couple of those kick offs. The taunting call was big time over kill but the blocked punt and the FG player forgetting he was on the unit needs to be cleaned up. How do you forget you're on the FG team? Wing is a vastly underrated weapon. His kicking could make all the difference in the world in a close game.

Just because our players were able to take bad play calling and make something happen, does not excuse bad play calling. How many run 3 times and punt/fg drives did we have today? Far more than we should have.

Both 3rd down runs in the 2nd half you are referring to were 3rd and 1.

Only once did we run the ball 3 straight times and get stopped, settling for a FG, and that was after the Wing penalty called back the TD. That was a 3rd and 4 play.

We ran 3rd and short successfully all game long.

Not sure what you want here.

Heck I want more aggressive play calling, but I think we're still working within the confines of our QBs. We obviously can dominate the LOS and run very well, even when they know it's coming.

Running on 3rd and 1 cannot be characterized as conservative. The execution on the play can be questioned, however.
