Really? If Jennings can't throw a screen, Harris really can't. If Jennings tucks and runs too fast, Harris really does. If Jennings doesn't check down from his first option, Harris really doesn't. Harris maybe super talented, but he doesn't have it between the ears yet. I suspect this game had more to do with working on the run than it did Jennings forgetting what he did the 6 quarters prior.
Harris showed last night he doesn't know the playbook well enough. You simply can't have a QB turn the wrong way on a handoff and have to make something out of it.
If the Tight Ends get a C-, then I might give the wide receivers a B. They had a few drops, but they were part of the offense. Perhaps the linebackers deserve an A- for this game. With both starting OLB's out with injuries, Jones and Riley came in and did good. Depth is essential in the SEC and we appear to have it at linebacker.
It was a terrible throw, and we can't forget that he is still just a 19-year old true sophmore who was making his 4th start. There will be mistakes, although as they said more than once on the broadcast, the thing that separated him from Harris in the workouts was his work to minimize mistakes. Of course that doesn't mean he's eliminated them completely. All the more reason for the game plan to be a little less predictably slanted to the run, and with lots of short and intermediate throwing options for him. I'm not sure it was the case on the interception, but I know they gave him a few pass plays where there was only one receiver. I wouldn't call that play if I had Brees or Brady or Manning as my QB.
On the interception, had Quinn's feet not gotten "tangled" with one of the defender's (it was interference...), the ball would have been right on the mark on the sideline where Quinn would have caught it or no one would have. The no-call interference caused the interception. However, with 4 db's in the area, someone was surely wide open elsewhere.
Regarding the interception, not sure if they call it if the ball is intercepted in front of the receiver being interfered with. Unless they think he could have made a play on the ball with the defender who was 3 to 4 yards in front of him. Judgment call at that point.
i have no concerns. seems like normal progression of a young team. we'll see if they can perform next week.
One of the announcers appropriately gave Harris the nickname, "Wild thing" after he threw a dart 10 yards out of bounds. Hoping he outgrows the nickname but it fits him perfectly now
Everyone talks about how young the team is and for the most part that is true. That said, the OL and LB's have a lot of experience, there is absolutely no excuse for the poor play there.
