"How many times have LSU fans had to watch the Tigers take a clearly overmatched opponent and play down to its level? Hardly a victory in 2012 came without anxious moments right to the very end. And even when the opponents were closely matched, that quality ended up in a gut-wrenching loss or two - Alabama and Clemson, for instance?" translation: SLOPPY (taken from article) http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2013/09/lsu_passing_offense_give_tiger.html You are an understatement.
Well, I guess you are right. The end is near. Boy I wish we could just recruit kids that need no coaching right out of high school.
What these numbers tell me is that, certian players on D slack when we are up by at least 2 scores. I am also assuming this has EVERYTHING to do with the changes we will be seeing on D in the coming weeks. Unlike years past..
That's not the point. My point is to discuss it, debate what solutions, if any, are available to the Louisiana State Football program.
What jumps out to me is the 1st Quarter stats - 1.10 ypc? That's sick. Without a doubt, that coincides with the only time our two games have even been close. When the game is within a TD, we've only allowed 2.82 ypc. I think that represents two things: 1) when it really counts, they can stop the run. 2) they don't have the bloodthirsty, selfish pride that some of our past defenses have had in just destroying teams from start to finish (I wish they did, but it's not absolutely necessary, as long as they can do it when it counts). The bottom line is that we are going to give Gurley a visit real soon, and we'll find out what this D is really about. We have to at least be better than Clemson, and anywhere near SCar's level will be acceptable as long as the offense continues to click.
There is a difference between being dominated and being sloppy. Sometimes these two accompany each other, but neither is reliant on the other. I seem to remember that they were playing a fairly good team that had LSU's number that day, but just didn't have the depth to finish the deal. @Smilodon
