That coverage mistake was not on Adams, he took the swing route, which is the correct route to take if the linebacker is not covering it, which the linebacker took the tight end. The blown coverage was on 13, who should have known he would be alone.
we'll have to just disagree on this one.....a deep safety is never meant to cover a back that is in the flat he reacted waaaaaay too soon
possibly, but it would have been open, his judgement was probably bad, because you have a better chance of stopping the guy in the flat, then the guy on the fly route in single coverage.
Well put it this way, Thomas didn't cover either one of them so Adams had to make a choice. As for as a deep safety never covering a guy in the flat I disagree completely. I've seen them cover guys in the flat on hundreds of occasions. Doubt we'll ever know for sure though as Miles and his coaches don't really throw the players under the bus all too often.
I am more worried about the 4th quarter play we have seen this year . The SEC will love our Tigers if this trend keeps up
A deep safety may be playing deep and the defense disguising coverage and the safey end up having a completely different responsibility. But at the outset of the play, you clearly see Adams is truly playing deep safety which has primary and utmost responsibility of not getting beat deep. You can see Thomas surprised (and upset) he didn't have help over the top as he expected. Adams simply can't run towards the wheel route until the ball is in the air. I believe it's another case of him being undisciplined and trying to make plays that are not his responsibility.
