QB: A- This certainly appears to be a downfield vertical attack passing game, much like last year. These QBs need to work on their timing on the screen passes. We look stupid on those, and that's unacceptable. On the other hand, the running ability of both QBs will serve them well come SEC play. RB: A It was Leonard Fournette's coming out party to some degree, with his pass catching ability on display that may have trumped his running with the ball (in fact, let's just say it did). We now have a glimpse into the future of how this man child will be used in this offense. Darrel Williams is a pleasant surprise and someone to look forward to down the line. WR: A Travin Dural has emerged as the new Odell Beckham, making one huge play after another. Trey Quinn made a spectacular catch on the sideline. Malachi Dupre showed why he was the top rated receiver coming out of high school with one catch of the ball. And then there is John "The Horse" Diarse. Strong like bull. TE: C- Much better blocking this week, but nowhere to be found on the stat sheet in the receptions category. That has to change. OL: B Still much room for improvement, but this was a very good step forward. DL: B- Still not getting pressure on the QB by themselves. We can't always rely on having to blitz to get to the QB. It's time for Danielle Hunter to make the impact we expect from him. Run defense by this line was pretty solid, however. Sione Teuhema just earned himself more playing time. LB: B Mr. Beckwith showed us a glimpse as well of what we can expect down the line. Another man child like Fournette. DB: A Another dreadful day for the opposing QB. When the stats come out later today, LSU should be ranked #1 in the nation regarding opposing QB rating. K/ST: C Not sure what is going on with Mr. Delahoussaye. He almost missed an XP last week vs Wisconsin, and this week nearly 3 more. Something wrong in his mechanics to be pulling the ball in that manner. Coaching: A+ Great job by Les Miles and the coaching staff for getting this team prepared and mentally focused to play a great game. Not an easy task.
I would probably give the running backs an A-. The sweep never really worked for Fournette and the loss of Neighbors showed. Linebackers maybe a B+. They got into the backfield. Welter causing a fumble at the 1-yard line really pumped up the crowd. The play of the tight ends is puzzling, those guys can play better. I hope Ensminger isn't slipping. Got to go with a B for special teams. The kickoffs were great. The punts were long. The return teams were fine. Everyone misses a PAT now and then.
He jerked at least 3 of them. It's an issue at this point that needs to be addressed. Blocked PAT was saved by penalty. That's always ugly as well.
Delahoussaye has been a good kicker for us. If there is an issue, Peveto will address it. I sure don't want to switch horses for having a bad day. That block is not on the kicker. The guy was way across the line before the snap.
