Harris should definitely start, he has earned it on the field. However don't be surprised if he struggles greatly in SEC play. New Mexico State is not an SEC team. The rush and coverage will be much better going forward. Plus the other deficiencies on offense will be magnified. The loss to Miss St wasn't because of QB play.
No they were not booing Jennings. Anyone saying that is clueless. The booing was definitely directed at Miles who kept sending him out there. That was very evident by what fans were saying inside the stadium during the game.
Absolutely. Like I said in another thread... Harris is going to make mistakes, and some of those will cost us a game or two... but he has the best upside, better to let him get the experience and make plays. It's the only way he's going to get better.
Weaker than it should be. Welter tried to make a play from his position, but the person who was responsible for that gap was not Welter. LSU sophomore defensive end Tashawn Bower took the blame for allowing the touchdown. “That was me,” Bower said. “I decided to try to go up field instead of reading my technique... I got out ahead of [the offensive tackle], but the quarterback saw it right away.” http://www.lsureveille.com/daily/ls...cle_b5094f74-474b-11e4-b3d7-001a4bcf6878.html
He may take the blame, but at the snap of the ball Welter ran to the left and the RB ran right in the exact spot he had just vacated. I have a hard time believing that Welters responsibility on the play was to run away from the ball carrier.
I have to put some of that on coaching. The guy came in and threw only one pass all year. They should have keyed on the run and leave the CB's on an island. I agree, it may have been Bowers responsibility to keep contain but Welter looked out of position. Overall, the D does not play intelligently. Watch at the UW D. They were almost always in their gap. They played smart, and almost always in position.
Well it wasn't, of course. He came up to cover the inside handoff to the running back, which turned out to be a fake. Then the quarterback ran through the hole that Bowers made by going outside of the tackle. Welter tried to get back over but the tackle was missed by Bowers who grabbed at his ankles. Watch at 1:08.
The replay at the game last night showed it perfectly from behind the LSU defense. Welter was so far out of position he was almost off the video screen. He never got closer than 5 yards from the ball carrier and had no clue what was happening. The argument of knows the defense and gets everyone in proper position has been dead for some time now.
