As a whole the run game wasnt that good. Sure we racked up a lot of yards, but again, thats a bit misleading. Outside of a few gashing runs, which the OL did a great job on. For the most part of the game the LSU OL was dominated by the Miss St DL. Mett wasnt well protected either, getting hit and sacked several times. Id give them a C. As for the coaching. There is no excuse for the poor play. The angles are poor. The tackling is extremely poor. There is no containment. The coverage sucks. Youth or not, there is no excuse for how poorly LSU is playing on D. A lot of that has to go on the coaches. Also, Miles and his clock mistakes are a killer. How the F can you not have a play ready after a damn KO return? Unacceptable. We did see some adjustments though. Id give the coaches a C.
I agree with you phenom that there is no excuse for missed tackles. We must have had 20 of them tonight alone. Again, a bit harsh on the O-line. You don't luck your way into 571 yards on the road in the SEC.
They had a facemask penalty on one of them, so it was nullified. Otherwise, he got 2 for 18, one of which was on Hilliard for being trucked. Great job by the O-line against a team that was allowing only 310 yards per game, 20th in the entire nation. On their home turf. They had allowed only 7 TDs all year long over 4 games. They allowed 8 tonight. On their home turf. We nearly doubled the yardage they allow. Doesn't happen by magic or wizardry folks. The right tackle got embarrased on one play and allowed a sack. Mettenberger completed 25 of 29 passes because he wasn't harrassed for almost the entire game. You don't average almost 8 yards per carry because we "barely opened up any holes". The only real failure was that goal line stand, and that had to do with being stubborn to try and force the run against 11 in the box (actually on the LOS). Twice. We do have a play action pass at the goal line in our playbook, correct?
What was our success rate tonite in the redzone? How many td's did we rush for? Should we have called pass plays on all of those td's?
He wanted to run the clock out that's why he went for it on 4th and 2. A FG doesn't really do anything at that point and we wanted to take more time off. The pass was a hot read by Mett. Going for it has less to do with Miles afraid of putting the defense on the field and more to do with running the clock out.
you might be thinking of a different situation it was 28-26 LSU early in the 3rd quarter when this 4th and 2 occurred I was shocked to see a play action fake. It was genius.
Every defensive unit gets an F until any of them learn to fucking tackle. It cannot be overstated his pathetic that was tonight. D line sucks. LBs suck. Secondary really sucks. Shuffling the lineup isn't helping either. Because the backups are just as horrible. But damn our offense is really fun to watch now. It was good to see them go for it on 4th down in a blowout and score that gratuitous touchdown instead of kneeling the clock out. Because they'll need those down the road.
One of the sacks in the first half was by, what looked like, four of the front four....I remember that.
The defense had a tough go of it for sure, but the halftime adjustments were the best we've made this year and the defense overall was better in the second half. Agree the OL was good on select plays, but not dominating as the stats would lead you to believe. Our offense this year is sure fun to watch though. Given our defensive struggles, and how some of the other upper echelon nationally ranked teams are faring, I may have to temper my end of season expectations, but there is still a long way to go.
