No one is asserting that he set the world on fire. He had a few good moments and showed some moxie at times, but he's clearly got a lot of work to do. I haven't seen anyone claim otherwise. But it's the over-the-top, "the sky is falling" comments like this... ...that need to stop. JJ gave us 3+ years of inconsistent play and a lack of leadership for which to criticize him. Giving up on Jennings b/c he didn't blow us all away in his very first start as a true freshman is ridiculous and unwarranted. It's not fair to Jennings to do that. Let's also not forget that he's being coached by one of the very best in the business. JJ never had that advantage. Just look at how much Mett improved with 1 year of tutelage by Cam. But, again, if you've already made up your mind that Jennings has hit his ceiling and will bring back another several years of mediocrity at QB, then perhaps you should just take up another fall hobby. Remember, JJ and JLee both looked like world beaters in their first starts. So perhaps it's better for a greenhorn to struggle out of the gate?
Once again common sense rears its ugly head. You sound too much like me, prayers sent. Thanks for the post.
What has happened to this board? Too much football knowledge this early in the morning. I too like the way you think. I see better days for AJ and LSU. 10 win season is not an easy task, just ask the coaches of the 9 teams in the SEC that didn't get to 10 wins this season.
All Iowa had to due to combat AJ as a QB was to do what every team did versus LSU while JJ was QB. Load the box and dare him to throw. I don't really care about running up the score or the difference between a spread offense and PRO offense, but f#%k being one dimensional. No reason to see a one deminsional offense on the field at LSU. There were a few aspects that won the game for LSU in the Outback Bowl, it wasn't QB play or superb coaching. It was o-line play, Jeremy Hill running, and Iowa turnovers. Quite a few schools have landed freshman QB's that came in day one and made a substantial improvement on their teams offense. For some reason LSU has trouble landing those types of QBs. There has to be a reason for that. Can you honestly say that Les and his scheme and track record have nothing to do with that?
I cant think of a better start for a qb. THe team won it for him, he is not stupid, he knows he needs work. I'll take that over a route as a first start anyday. At the end of the day, the W is recorded. And that is what matters most in a team game.
Look at it this way: at least it's obvious what he needs to work on entering spring practice (his decisiveness).
Completely agree. While all the talking heads were marveling over the comeback that Manziel led, all I could think was how bad the game as a whole looked for aTm and the SEC. Absolutely. It forces teams to be good in all 3 phases of the game. The pick-almost-6 and the KO return were the only things that kept Iowa in the game.
Absolutely correct. Jennings will improve. Cam will coach him up. The offensive coaches will build a scheme around him that fits his strengths. We'll be fine.
A few things you seem to forget, Mett was seen as a mid round pick in this NFL draft, the year under Cam has done wonders, ask Todd McShay, he said that Mett might be the most improved player in college football. Cam was watching Iowa load 8 and 9 in the box and still saw that the game could be won doing just what he did. Go back an look at 3rd down conversions, 59% going into that game, ask any OC how hard it is to get an offense to 59%. In the SEC 59%? It's about calling the right plays and knowing when to call them. As for QBs coming to LSU, we have one of the better I've seen come out of the state in years with the Harris kid, seeing this kid play in the dome was a treat, he carried Parkway on his back, a leader. Remember Cam is paid to win games, if that means you run the ball every play, control clock, shorten the game, that's what you do. Cams been doing this for a few years, I'm gonna guess the man knows what he's doing. Iowa never did adjust to what Cam was doing and when they tried, we did it anyway. You take what a team gives you, they were giving us the run, the rest we took. 9 teams in the SEC didn't make it to 10 wins this year and a whole lot more in the nation. Say what you want about Les, but he wouldn't be out of a job long if he left LSU. I see too many teams that have fallen off the map in the years that he has been at LSU.
