I think this is the first talented passing QB we will have seen all year, besides Prescott, so they better not underestimate W. Kent. That will be hard, given our tendency to play down to lesser opponents, but look what happened to Ole Miss by underestimating Memphis.
Very well said, I'm sick of every damn game coming down to the end when it should have been long over. Many of LSU's losses over the previous two seasons were because LSU didn't put the game away and lost it at the end. Thankfully this season that hasn't happened but Miles did everything in his power to give Miss St and UF an opportunity at the end of the game. It pisses me off when coaches play not to lose when their up. LSU was killing UF with unpredictable play calling in the first half. Our passing attack was rolling up big plays on their vaunted D. Second half rolls around and LSU comes out a completely different team. LSU went back to the run, run, short conservative passing game. The game should have been put away instead of allowing UF the opportunity to get back into it. It also pissed me off on LSU's final drive when on third and long you run the damn ball. Sure Fournette is a stud but you pass the damn ball. A first down all but ends the game. I would not trust our D to get a stop. Thankfully it all worked out in the end.
You should go over to Swamp Gas forums for Florida and read for a few minutes. That is the whiniest group of pansies I've ever read comments from. They neglected to mention our two TD gifts to them, but somehow came up with how each of our TDs was "luck."
It has been around much longer than that. From the Earthquake game to the BCS win over Oklahoma to the '58 team, we have always played it close. It is just who we are. I have talked to a bunch of objective fans and since the Arnsparger days (when I was there and really started to pay attention) to now, we always seem to make it more interesting than it should be. The one time we tried to run it up on Florida, Mauck got his foot broken. I have learned to accept it along with a shit ton of wins and great endings.
Well, the thing about their pansy side of the conference is if LSU wins the west they will get a rematch.
I think the one common thread is NOT that the team always plays it close. The common thread is that certain fans have higher expectations than they should and are disappointing when we don't blow out every opponent. You do realize that there is another team on the other sidelines that are trying to implement their own game plan and they have their own play makers?
That's totally wrong. No one expects a blowout every time. Most of us predicted a very close game. What no one predicted was LSU jumping all over Florida and beating their ass in the 2nd quarter. What's frustrating is time after time seeing LSU squander a lead in the 2nd half. This isn't something that just happened last night. LSU should have come out of halftime and Choot em Jacob. (I hate that show by the way). They were on the hook, their head was showing and Jacob didn't Choot em. Jacob let em hang around get in the boat and almost take his leg off.
Not only that, but what's so frustrating to me is how unstoppable we were in the 2nd Q, so why not continue with the same run/pass mix of plays to try an extend the lead? Instead, we go ultra conservative, 3 and outs, and the D is right back on the field. It's just not smart football to try and nurse a 14pt lead right out of the gate at halftime. It hasn't cost us yet, but it will at some point. It's almost a mathmatical certainty. Huh?
