The first couple games, he was looking for the defender, trying to bowl over players. This is college, those guys have been playing college ball for 2, 3 and 4 years. Fournette is looking for the green grass, making them come to him. When you do this, they have to get a good hit on you, wrap up, and hit low. The runner then has the upper hand. He also seems to look where the defenders are, once he gets passed the line. Making an early read before the ball is snapped, helps the back.
He isn't agile enough to make people miss and tends to get tripped up a lot, by defenders and also himself when making a move. I believe he has speed, seeing as he has tree trunks for legs, but only if he can get a big enough opening to out run someone in a straight line. Jeremy Hill wasn't very fast but that guy had more 50+yard runs than any LSU back I've ever seen because he could make people miss and break tackles. LF will have to slim down and increase his foot speed to succeed in the NFL, imo. Having said all that, I am being more critical of him because he was expected to be the next Adrian Peterson or elite back
I agree, I think LF needs to shed some weight, he would be able to cut a lot better, he has the moves he is just so damn big, he's like the diesel back there.
There are still things he hasn't done well but he is getting better with each game. They need to take him off of kick returns, though. His average return so far is less than getting the ball on the 25
I said the same after the first game, he runs too upright, what saves him is his physicality and vision. But no he doesnt have a 2nd gear just yet, he runs at one speed.
For a true freshman I think his impact has been tremendous. If this guy is only going to get better, whoa. He will be Cecil Collins minus the lunacy.
I just noticed this comment. Funny. And the grade for Jennings was a bit harsh. I think C or even C+ would be acceptable. We need to get the ball downfield like we were doing early in the season. He needs to get that confidence back. We can't keep completing 5-7 yard passes.
It would be nice to have QB that could complete passes 50% of the time. It would be nice if it didn't feel like one penalty on a drive didn't mean it was over. It would be nice to have a drag route or crossing route in the offense. It would be nice to have a QB that could read a defense and not stare down his receivers. It would be nice to have an offense that gave you hope that there was improvement. I am just saying.
