QB: B Harris missed some throws downfield, nearly decapitated his newly found TE, but did run with the ball effectively. Given the limited playbook in the passing game at this point, it's going to hard to get into any kind of rhythm. Hopefully that changes soon. RB: A+ Good God. Haven't seen a back like this since Cecil Collins. Makes for a great argument in terms of greatest back in LSU history. Guice reminds me of Reggie Bush with more strength/size. That kid is going to be so fun to watch in the coming years. Williams is just simply solid. WR: B Limited chances to impact the game but downfield blocking was really good. TE: B+ Good to see a TE catch a touchdown on a play action pass. Solid blocking by our TEs opening up the edges. OL: A+ Barring injury, this will do down as the best O-line in the last 15 years (since our resurgence as an elite power). DL: B+ Very disruptive, big play by Herron that pretty much put the game away. We got better pressure on the QB in game 1. LB: B+ This is starting to look like the best LB unit since Les Miles arrived at LSU. Beckwith is going to be a total beast before all is said and done. DB: B Jamal Adams needs to play more disciplined. Tremendous talent and leader of that backfield, nonetheless. We have two great corners, with the return of Mills later in the season, we will be really difficult to throw on. ST/K: C+ Need to clean up a few things with this unit. Not sure what the high kick giving Auburn the ball at the 36 was all about. Take that one out of the playbook. Coaching: A- Great game plan overall. Miles got the troops prepared and motivated to erase the horror from 2014. Would like to see some more play action to get the QB more involved and get his confidence level up that he can move this team down the field through the air just as effectively as we do on the ground.
Only changes I'd make is lowering LB to B-, too many missed tackles and I'd give the Wr's an incomplete, just not enough there to grade.
I agree with all of these grades. I just took a glance the the Bama board's LSU/Auburn game thread. I thought you might like to see their comments after Fournettes third quarter TD. Fournette! Holy crap. Good. God. I know LF is good but come on... Good God, y'all! Mother of god.... Best run so far....wow Look Auburn's defense is pure garbage but that is a Heisman running back right there Man just WOW. Fournette is just a MONSTER. I pray to God that nobody on our team calls out LF when we play them. He's running mad. I had a football daydream earlier about Fournette playing in a crimson jersey. It was great until I woke up and realized we would be playing against him in the near future. Never tackle a Mack truck, that's on fire, high. I dunno if even we could stop him if we don't catch em quick...once he gets going its on like donkey kong LF reminds me a little of Herschel Walker in his style of running and ability to punish defenders. We will be seeing highlights of barners getting trucked by Fournette for the rest of the season. LSU can pretty much name the score at this point. Yeah. I think this about to turn into a curb stomping....
Defense deserved their B's, they have some issues there. But Auburn punted for more yards (300) than their offense was able to muster from scrimmage (260).
Just for contrast, these were the Fournette comments on the Auburn board. Closest thing to Bo since Bo. Tuff enuff. He certainly looks the part, but I'm going to wait and see him consistently perform vs real SEC defenses. Is that based off if this game? I'll withhold judgment on him until he plays something resembling an actual defense. I wouldn't want you scouting for me if you don't recognize Fournette's ability pretty quick. Oh I recognize his talent, but he has not earned a comparison with Bo just yet. I said closest, not there and probably wont be. He's a definite hoss. Just glad he didn't pick bammer, who threw everything at him trying to get him. He runs too straight up. Pretty fast though, for a big guy. Reminds me of Brandon Jacobs. I like Fournette but he can't carry Bo's jock strap! None of them will ever compare to Bo, simply because of the speed he had. Can we stop building up the people that destroy us? Our defense is terrible... We will probably have 3 or 4 backs go for 200+ and 3 TDs. He's no Bo. Hell, any of our RBs would go for the same stats against us behind a decent line.
Funny, Fournette is right there on speed and I didn't see AUs RBs truck anyone, even J-State players.
