Ya know, I've been a supporter of Miles, BUT - He's undefeated this year, 4-0. 4-0 against 4 over matched teams. He has an incredible overall record, but I'll bet if you looked back, at least half of those wins are against teams like we've played so far this year. Over matched. He has an incredible recruiting base, the best DC in college football and now maybe the best OC. IT'S TIME HE WON THE BIG ONE!!! In the 2011 NCG he closed practices and was so secretive and then put a dud on the field. That great team that went 13 - 0 in the regular season is still being ridiculed for not being able to get past the 50 yard line against Alabama. Then he had the gall to put put a 2 on their SEC championship ring, even the defensive players, when it was he who didn't have the ability to put a decent offensive game plan together. So last year against Florida. We were down on their goal line and Miles called time out. The camera was on Miles as he and Studrawa talked excitedly on the headset. Then, in comes Magee who hadn't been on the field all season. Was there anyone in the stands or watching on TV that didn't know a trick play was coming? Sure enough, the jump pass that we've tried every year against Florida since Tebow pulled it on us way back when. Of course it didn't work. They knew it was coming and they had it covered. I don't think that play lost us the game, but damn!!! You'd think a guy who has been coaching 40 years and making $3 mil a year could do better than that. So, last year against Alabama in the first half. In good field goal range and with a good kicker. What does he do? Fake field goal. Didn't work. The on another occasion, way out of range of a field goal and should have punted. He tries a field goal. Of course Alleman missed it. Way out of range. Then the wildcat toward the end. So those two losses put us in the chicken bowl of course against Clemson. I watched the game on T.V. with the sound off and was listening to a Clemson radio station. Miles does the offensive shutdown routine toward the end of the game. Everybody knows what happened. The Clemson announcers made a couple of comments about it. Then at the end when we needed 2 yards for a first down and had two downs to make it. Two incomplete passes. The Clemson guys were incredulous. So, we lost to Clemson in the chicken bowl. Our defensive guys went to the NFL. I don't blame them. Miles need to cut the crap and start making good sideline decisions. The fake field goal run by Fruge against Auburn was a bad one.
For all top tier BCS schools, half their wins will come from the same type of competition. My guess is, that if you examined any coach's record who has coached for more than three games, you would find decisions that did not work out and could be labeled bone headed... even Sabin has had his share... the end of an Arkansas game and his last bowl game at LSU come immediately to mind. You remember Miles' bad decisions because they are more salient to you ... that are you just don't like him
I suppose you're right, but I'd say Miles leads the bonehead league. I can't say I don't like him, but it's time for him to win a big one, or risk being labeled the chicken bowl King.
First of all you shouldn't be making blind assumptions. I don't gamble, so I'm not pissed off about losing a bet. Yes, I'm capable of seeing the "big picture" as you call it, but I don't see any merit(none) in giving up 3 points or 1 possession to practice a fake field goal in a real game situation. True, we didn't need the 3 points, but we didn't know it at the time. What really pisses me off is bad sideline decisions and I think I've made it clear what I think about the fake field goal.
Read what I wrote. I didn't make any assumptions, just stating what you sound like. I didn't mean to insinuate that you were a gambler and kudos to you for not being one. Think it through a bit more, merely stating that you have a grasp on the big picture doesn't mean it is so. Just because it failed doesn't mean that everything associated with the play is negative. Having a21 point lead and having displayed the ability to match Auburn's scoring, was a fairly good indication that LSU didn't need those 3 points. Fortunately you, me or the next guy getting pissed off really doesn't matter.
You're wasting your breath. One day, when we're a consistent 7-5 team again, he and others like him will look back and say, "Damn, I miss that goofy sumbitch. He sure won a helluva lot of games."
Wondering, does anyone have the ratio of pass/run in the 3rd quarter? Also, how many 3 and outs did we have in the game? In the 4th quarter? I'll hang up and listen...
Reason I'm wondering is this. Seems I remember heading into the 4th quarter, first play was a TD pass from Mett to Landry. Next time we got the ball, false start, then a couple runs (which resulted in a first down), then pass, run, pass, punt. Punted to AU 12, and then on 3rd and 12 from the 10, the DEFENSE gave up a first down. Now would probably be a good time to mention, LSU led TOP heading into the 4th, and AU had only run a handful (like 4-6) plays more than LSU. Had it not been for long TDs, LSU probably has more plays than AU at that point. Hope Les talks to Hill and Landry about scoring from so far out...ridiculous! Anyway, so the DEFENSE gives up the 3rd and 12, and AU drives down the field and scores. Remember, this is well into the 4th quarter by now. So don't tell me about the offense not executing and wearing the defense down. Like I said, at that point, TOP and plays run were about even. So why then is it "Les meddling in the offense" that is the automatic culprit? (culprit resulting in a two TD victory over an SEC rival) Is it simply because for the last several years, the defense was good, and everyone decided Les only meddles with the offense? So no way they can be objective and say, damn, this young defense is gonna cause us some issues this year. Hope Chavis can work a miracle. In the meantime, let's blame Les and the offense. And if you think Cam Cameron is gonna come here and allow Les to run the offense, you're nuts. Any coach with a 21 pt 4th quarter lead is gonna try to eat clock. Any coach with a 14 pt lead at the 6 minute mark of the 4th is gonna try and eat clock. Oh, pretty sure there was a 3 and out in the 2nd, then 2 in the 4th. On the one in the 2nd, rushed on 1st down, tried to pass on 2nd, but Mett was sacked on a blitz, then inc pass on 3rd down. Shitty sequence, but considering what had worked till that point, I can't say bad playcalling from Cameron. In the 4th, I wanna see the coach throwing it around with that lead. Oh yeah, already have seen him...in the early 90s at LSU.
Some don't see it this way. LSU is the only place where we can put up 35 pts and win by 14 pts in an SEC game and people complain. Good post Fish.
I disagree. I do not think people are complaining to complain. I think people saw tendencies that stunk of 2012 mismanagement. After the past 5 years, everyone has a right to question play calling.
