If Price filled their need on the DL, they would have drafted him.
    Why can't you see that?

I think Price could have filled their need, but....... they have other plans. I'm not going to rip this staff anymore, because they obviously know what they are doing, and btw, Big John Henderson from Jacksonville was released. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Saints pick him up.

I know I'm arguing semantics but, obviously, the Saints didn't see him making it at that position so, no, he would not fill a need.

It's not a matter of the Saints thinking he fills a need or not, it's a matter of draft philosophy. The Saints chose to pick the best player available at their pick regardless of need. It's a pretty simple concept, I thought you would catch on quicker.

So they could draft me as a DL and their need would be filled?

Have you been to the doctor lately? Your brain seems to be running in slow motion.

You haven't refuted my notion. Let me type slowly. DL is a need. They'd like to fill that need. They didn't see a suitable player to fill that need so they picked the best available regardless of position. It has nothing to do with their "philosophy". It has everything to do with what's there when it's their turn.

Let me type slowly for you since this is clearly going right over your head. Just because they thought Price wasn't the best player available at pick 32 doesn't mean they didn't think he was able to fill their need at DL. Like I said it is a choice between two philosophies. The Saints organization clearly thought going with the best available player rather than best available at a certain position was the best approach.

If they thought he was able to fill their need, they would have drafted him.

The parsing of words between you too is silly. We don't know where Price rated on the Sainrs draft board or if they felt that he filled the need. What we do know is that they wanted Jerry Hughes, but didn't get him so they took the best CB left on the board which was a steal at #32. In fact, almost all of the Saints draft choices were selected far below where they were rated to be picked.

If last season showed us anything it's that having true cover cornerbacks on Gregg Williams' defense is at the top of the list of necessities. Look wherever Williams has coached. He always places a high premium on the CBs because you nneed to make sure the QB has no place to throw the ball when he throws the rest of the defense at him. When Sedrick Ellis got hurt, the Saints defense stumbled. When Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter got hurt, they fell face first. It's not surprise (to me at least) that when the playoffs started we saw the Saints defense of the first half of the season.

No one is going to be running the ball when the Saints go up by two scores. Not even the mighty Colts who were gashing the Saints run defense in the Superbowl could help themselves. They know that once Brees gets hot, they better answer every score or it's over with.
