I agree, based on the limited sample against weak competition the grade is an A. I firmly believe that as he installs more of his offense and the players become more familiar with it, the grade will remain high. But there are much harder tests down the road and there is still improvement needed in some areas. Given the one dimensional offense we have become accustomed to, I think things are quickly moving in the right direction. I didn't expect Mett to look this good this early even agaist non SEC teams and playcalling really improved in games 2 and 3.
You see it too, he keeps calling the "Victory Formation" at the end of every game.........man I hate that. Ok, folks, here we go..... The third leading receiver with three catches in 3 games is Neighbors, yep, thats right, for a total of 71 yards, thats 23.7 ypr. Remember this, LSU fullbacks had three catches the entire year last season. In all, 11 players have caught passes. 10 players have had carries. OBJ has run the reverse 3 times and has a 11 ypc avg. Mett is 3 yards shy of 800 yards passing for the year. An efficiency of 205.29, I think thats good for third in the nation. As a team, LSU is avg. 17.6 ypr.
This is a good observation. I would say, though, that Cam has yet to display the overly-conservative playcalling that Jimbo would sometimes exhibit. That's not to say that it can't happen, but I don't think it will considering that we may not have the lockdown defense that we had that year. I also think that Mettenberger is light years ahead of Russell, and that's not a slight against Jamarcus because he was awesome that year. I just think that Zach is ridiculously dialed-in right now.
Ah, come on, man. Let's just enjoy this year before we start dreading next year. Besides, that was Crowton's M.O. everywhere he went. Awesome first year, terrible second year and beyond.
I hear ya, although Crowton had a track record for this -- gangbusters the first year, then huge dropoffs thereafter. I think we can be optimistic with Cam, given his track record of excellent work with NFL offenses and QB's.
