Back to the Lesticles fourth down thing, Miles got that rep mainly from the Florida game where he went for, and made, 5 out of 5. The fake FG against South Carolina enhanced his rep as well. Nootch's stats are revealing. It all means that Les Miles is a little bit of a gambler, but unlike others**cough... Tubby...cough** he's adept at picking his spots and not giving big MO to the opponent. After you've done something enough times, luck is removed from the equation.
Our problems are much bigger than "don't lose to LSU". Don't lose to "Miss. St., ULM, Georgia, Fla St., Auburn & LSU" in the same year about sums up our problems. Thanks for the help though. :thumb:
Actually it seems Tubs isn't the gambler he once was. He still takes his chances but he's toned it down a bit since his Ole Miss days and early Awbrin days.
I was just trying to be helpful in pointing out that stuff you post here on a regular basis wouldn't be tolerated by the board where you call home. Maybe that'll tone ya down some. If not, we can continue to spar. :hihi: I just appreciate places like this and soonerfans.com. Rival fans are given a pretty long leash with which to hang themselves, and I even have positive rep points over there. After all, this IS the internet. Can you really take yourselves as seriously as I think you all do??
coaches who make a name that way soon adapt and become conservative once they develop a name for themselves. daddy bowden would call every trick play in the book when he began his successful run at criminole U, yet when he started getting in NC games/contention he was the most conservative coach ever. it was painful to watch. much like when saban gets a lead. spurrier is far more conservative than in his heyday though Im not sure why since you should take the risks when your teams suck. tubby lost the riverboat gambler image a long time ago. though he will still do something out of the blue every now and then, it seems his timing is usually off and hes not as successful. it seems forced. les makes tough calls in big games with everything on the line, unlike bobby b. and just about any other coach. thats a difficult thing to do. you see even the great coaches fold under the pressure of the moment and pull in the reigns. miles does the exact opposite. you cant teach that. of course a little insanity never hurts. most coaches make their name when working their way up. Les has made his name in critical games, not overall numbers. thats why he has his reputation. he is fearless. he is ours. he is insane. fear the hat, bitches.
Thought I'd give our Bama friends who keep going on and on about how lucky Les Miles is, how LSU almost lost to Bama, Auburn, Fla. in 2007 (funny, change 2 plays and we're 14-0) something to think about. 2003- LSU beats Ga. 17-10 at the end of the game, ESPN and other media outlets go on and on about how "lucky" LSU got by. 2003-LSU beats Ole Miss 17-14 when Eli Manning trips over his center's foot 2004-LSU comes from behind to beat 7-5 powerhouse Oregon St.22-21 in overtime, at home 2004-LSU beats 7-5 Fla. 24-21 2004-LSU comes from behind to beat powerhouse Troy St. 24-20 at home 2004-LSU beats 4-7 Ole Miss 24-21 at home. Nick Saban had a horseshoe up his azz just as much, if not more than Miles did. Bama fans seem to think that Saban was perfect at LSU. LSU fans know better. Saban is a great coach, but it's not like he won every game at LSU in a blowout. So please, spare me the "Miles is just
It'll be interesting to see how Bama fans react when they lose a game they had the lead in because Nick lets all the air out of the football and plays not to lose. For an example, watch the 2004 NC game. Mauck throws an interception, Nick knifes the football and LSU wins by a touchdown a game should have won going away.
