Well, Les has had to listen to recruits tell him that Nick is still trying to take credit for LSU's success. He's had to read articles saying he still has to prove himself, even though he has an 85% winning record, never finished out of the top-5, and has SEC and BCS trophies. He has to hear on TV that he's reckless and lucky for going on first down so much, even though in Les' three years at LSU, they have been #6, #3, and #1 nationally in 4th-down percentage conversions (81.3% last year!). So, I suspect that Les sometimes feels a need to remind folks that he's doing better at LSU than Nick did. Buzzard, you guys are just going to have to get used to a few things. 1. Les is a bit cocky. 2. LSU is very likely to go for it on 4th down.
I understand all of those things as well. But Les AND Nick are grown men to and in a day and age of spoiled athletes smack talking all over the media could set no better example than to do something truly REFRESHING and that's take the high road. Some people have loved the media sparring match between Saban and Miles and view it as "entertainment" and "good for the game". I'm just one of those that do not believe this.
You keep focusing on "liking Miles". You are not supposed to like a rival that keeps on beating you. It just doesn't work. But you are supposed to eventually show him respect, and there is a decided lack of it from bama. Even other fanbases have their hold out morons, but bama is overrun with them. Shall I start linking threads to prove my point? As to comments biting you in the ass, perhaps bama did experience some karma in regards to saban, or perhaps you guys just did the best you could with what you had. Read it how you want, but apparently Miles' comments did not bite him in the ass last year, unless you regard the USC-Stanford game as proof that the PAC10 is somehow loaded with juggernauts. If Miles loses this year, and bama goes on to glory, than you can certainly point to this incident and say "told you so". But until that happens, you are just going to have to take it and stop trying to moralize Miles into "coach speak". He is not going to give it anyway, so I would just focus on beating him first, and moralizing later. As your coach likes to say, "It is what it is."
less likely than most other SEC schools, but Les is the "reckless gambler" 4th down attempts in '07 Kentucky - 22 Vandy - 21 Ole Miss - 21 R-Kansas - 19 Auburn - 19 So. Carolina - 17 Tennessee -17 LSU! - 16 Miss. St. - 15 Florida - 13 Georgia - 13 Bama - 12 Can someone explain to me how being in the bottom half of the conference in 4th down attempts is gambling too much?
If there is any sparring between the two coaches, it has been a one sided affair. Miles has never done or said anything to degrade saban as a coach. However saban holding a press conference to declare the LSU players as his recruits was just that. While a valid statement about his ability to recruit, it also put forth the argument(parroted by bama fans) that they are still his players. You know damn well that's what happened and side stepping it is futile. When Miles and his players have to repeatedly affirm that the team belongs to LSU and that Miles is the coach and for most of them, the only coach they have worked with, it was a direct slam vs Miles. Don't try to spin it back on us. Miles has never done anything like this in regards to your coach. I won't even get into the many reports along the recruiting trail. I understand where you are coming from buzzard but your viewpoint will not fly here. You are probably better off professing the high moral tone on your own board rather than here.
I have no problem with this type of attitude. If you don't care, you don't care. Every SEC program has their soap box they seem to stand on about not being respected, or being the ones everybody hates etc. Plus you have different kinds of fans. Trust me there are a lot of Alabama fans that when given the opportunity will return EVERYTHING they've been dished (over the last decade) and will probably do it ten fold. I guess my "soap box" is if fans choose to take the "I don't give a chit what other fans think" while their program is on top then don't say a word when if/when the roles get reversed. Not specifically talking about you.
Well all I have ever heard is how awful the fans of LSU are, and still hear how we have no tradition, are very mediocre, blah, blah, blah.So I don't understand the shoe on the other foot. Rivals talk crap about us whether we win or lose. The beat goes on. As to coaches, I say that a rival coach should not be liked. If he is truly liked, he probably is not much of a threat to your team. Respect is completely different, and you might see more compassion from LSU fans if bama fans gave an ounce of respect to our coach/team. I do not like a single coach at another team that can play LSU, and like them even less if they beat us. But I do respect several of them. Give it a try.
Dude makes a good point, maybe, just maybe it is karma biting bama in the ass. All the ones who can't just be happy with Saban, they have to be superior and claim what a moron Miles is how it's because of Saban, and only because of Saban he's successfull. Is it because if our success is only due to their current coach, then it means they are superior to us also?
