did you already forget the Phillies (middle of the pack in payroll) from last year? or the Rockies (bottom 5) season before last? or Detroit (middle of the pack) before that? or White Sox vs Astros (both middle of the pack) year before that? or Angels vs Giants (both middle of the pack) just a couple years before that?
The Yankees haven't won a World Series since 2000 but they sweep Boston and suddenly they are the evil empire again. Like I said, all owners have the money. The Yanks just aren't afraid to spend it.
Dang, I've been gone a while. When did martin come back? I thought he disappeared when the Mets choked the division.
apparently i did forget about those. I thought the phillies had a higher payroll, and i totally forgot about the rockies. sabanfan, the yankees have always been the evil empire in my book. they could lose 162 games and that still wouldnt be enough in my eyes.
baseball always gets a bad rap when it comes to salary discussions and claiming that only a handful of teams can compete, but basketball is the one that should be looked at more closely. since 1980: 30 NBA Finals = only 8 teams have won a title 28 World Series (none in '94, '09 ain't happened yet) = 18 teams have won titles NBA teams with 3 or more titles = Lakers (8), Bulls (6), Celtics (4), Spurs (4), Pistons (3) MLB temas with 3 or more titles = Yankees (4)
ok ok, i admit it, i am just a yankee hater. i watched the world baseball classic a few years ago and found myself pulling for mexico and other countries that didn't have yankees on the team.
Part of the fun in being a Yankee fan (and I've been one since 1958) is listening to the Yankee haters whine because they pull for losers. I'll bet you a 6 pak that you are a Celtics fan.
