Uh, who you talking to and what are you talking about. I think you must have meant this for another thread.:rolleye33:
He must have been talking to me. I am so filled with hate. And rage. And raging hate. Ran out of hate expressions. I hate that.
I noticed very similar things regarding his performance in 2008. However, a QB cannot survive in the SEC on the rollout alone. It's a good tool to have in your bag; hell, Jamarcus was freaking deadly with it. When he rolled out, somebody's ass was fixing to get torched. But good defenses will base their game plan around stopping the rollout. He must be able to hold his own in the pocket.
Agreed, but we also have to have an OL that will allow him to keep upright. Granted he was responsible for many of his own sacks due to holding onto the ball too long, but the OL was just as responsible for him living on his butt or having to scramble out of the pocket.
He definitely needs to work on stepping up in the pocket, but I don't blame him for not having confidence in the O-line to hold back the pass rush.
I agree...but last season, there were VERY few designed roll outs. And every single time, they worked. What I'm saying is they basically tried to "protect" him by MAKING him a pocket passer...and that's exactly what he isn't. Sure, sometimes, you have to be. But the plays can be designed for that...so that it makes him more comfortable. And then some of the plays can be designed rollouts...to play to his strength. The only times they tried it last season, he was dead on balls accurate. Just didn't do it enough.
I've been hearing about R. Shepard since his Jr. year in HS and it really seems like he's destined for greatness. Hopefully he can be an even quicker Welker-type out of the slot and force teams to double him. If Tolliver & Randle are getting single coverage, I have no doubt that Jefferson will be able to put up points and have a much more explosive O than last year. I think the key is for Shepard to get 10 catches for 115 yds against UNC on the turf and then force teams to gameplan him the rest of the season. The collective talent of RB's and WR's on the roster may be the best in the country (all with skills that compliment each other). Jefferson needs to improve from last year but he's got everything in place to make me think he'll do it. The four losses last year are magnified because of the ginormous letdowns. The UF game was the most hyped in Tiger Stadium history and the game was a dud (with a bit of interference controversy). The Bama game was even bigger and we had them on the ropes at their place until JJ & Scott went down (another bad call - PP INT). The coaching blunder deservedly got the headline in a classic SEC battle. The Penn St. game really shouldn't even count with the playing conditions. At least two unbiased talking heads basically said the same thing. Expecations, along with results, have varied significantly since '95. I really like being under the radar, given the tremedous athletes and potential of this team. JJ is definitely the key.
i think JJ has too many weapons to not be successful. toliver and randle will be the best 1 2 wr combo in the nation and good luck trying to cover shepard with a linebacker or a backed up safety. and if teams go to a dime or nikel i think lsu will be able to run the ball somewhat competently this year due to the extra 300 pounds on the line and Mr. Ford
You going to get hit no matter if you make a play or not - make the play, as payback for getting hit.
