This... Up by 3 with the strength of the team on the field and the opponent 73yds away, most would take that... They scored in less than 50 sec (with a no call on a push off)... People forget we played how many freshmen this year... Three starting lbs don't play (key quit long ago tbh), kickers miss chip shot fgs to leave 6 of the board and we lose by 4...
Someone will remind you soon how tough we played Bama. A two TD loss which saw the Tide kneeling at the end just to be nice.
Well, I was originally trying to respond via multi-quote, but those didn’t show up on the reply. People complain about Oeaux’s buyout, but want him to recruit well, and expect him to fix kicking woes with the same players. No patience, just all expectations. Parks were great. Saints and LSU both lost after leading with under 2 min in the game, so that sucked. Great family trip overall, though.
We're all emotional after today's game. Sure, this loss was a tough pill to swallow. Everything that needed to go wrong went wrong. Let's try to look at the upside, though. The team could have easily folded the tents after the Troy loss. They didn't. This team showed a lot of heart and fight this year, and went 9-3, 6-2 for the regular season. Winning 6 out of 7 down the stretch against the gauntlet of an SEC schedule is nothing to sneeze at. I know people will say the SEC was down this year, but you still have to go out on that field and win. We won 9 games with essentially an average QB, and I don't even know how many freshman and inexperienced players that were forced into significant playing time. This includes what had to be dealt with in the trenches. We will be a better team next year. I refuse to get caught up in the negativity. Coach O has one full season under his belt; give him some time. We have a great DC in Aranda. Hopefully we can make a good OC hire who will develop quarterbacks and utilize the talent to its strengths. Brennan and Narcisse are more talented than Etling. It looks like we have a good recruiting class coming in, and nobody can say that O hasn't recruited well. Both lines will be better and we have a good kicker coming in from the JUCO ranks. I think we will pleasantly surprised. Geaux Tigers!
You guys are putting way too much emphasis on a game that meant nothing. Let's see what next year brings
It's hard to play man against a mobile quarterback. He had hurt us earlier in the game on a third-and-long scramble and some Zone reads.
Thanks for being a voice of reason. I always saw this season as one of transition. We obviously had shortcomings at QB; I said elsewhere, Etling was more suited for Miles/Cam's offense, while I think Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris were better suited for the Canada offense than Etling. The offensive line was in flux to begin the year, and the rash of injuries made things worse. Defensively, you don't lose 5 NFL-calibre starters and not see a drop off. With all that going on, we ended up bowl-wise right about where I thought we'd be. I was optimistic, but never very enthusiastic about the hiring of O. I still believe there's upside to be found moving forward, but the turmoil and perceived lack of leadership we saw at times during the season are a big concern. I'm disappointed Canada may be on the way out. I'm a big believer that recruits like continuity, and a revolving door at the coordinator spots does us no good. All that said, I don't think losing today is any sort of disaster for the program. The offensive line should be a major strength next year, and even with the losses we will have on the defensive side of the ball, the next guys up should be at least as good. Coaching up the QB position will be critical. If Brennan (or Narcisse) step up ready to play in September, I like our prospects for 2018.
