Paris needs to play more. But I dont trust this defense I dont trust Steele, his calls are basic, his blitzes are basic, you can see them coming from down the street. This is a talented bunch, but the calls are not great
I'm starting to question my opinion of Steele. I like the fact that he is a bit more aggressive than Chavis but like I've previously said I don't see the adjustments. As the weeks go on it does appear the opping O's are finding more cracks in the D. I agree, we have a ton of talent, especially in the secondary. Under O the DL is much improved. The LB play is better, but I would have much rather seen O as the DC.
I agree, i have a feeling that the defense will cost us a game this year without any halftime adjustments. the d-line is night and day. they are a good bunch so far and Debo is our best linebacker right now, not taking anything way from Beckwith, he has been a monster as well.
Great call on Debo, he is playing like we expected when we first watched him as a FR. His burst and speed are amazing.
Syracuse Game: THE GOOD Leonard Fournette THE BAD Harris had a BAD game. Looked lost and just out of it for the most part. Didn't make proper reads at the line, mis communication on run plays, under threw Dupre on a post that should have been a TD. Earth to Jaimie Keehn, where the hell are you? LSU needs improvement from our punting game BAD Our 2nd Half Defense is abysmal. It has been in all 3 games this year, and needs serious improvement if we plan on closing out SEC teams and competing for a ship. Red Zone play calling. THE UGLY 1. Penalties. Must get this cleaned up and corrected. Will lose every remaining SEC game if we have 14 penalties for over 100 yards. Not to mention the big plays called back because of them. All in all, I think this is the type of game you are fortunate to get the win. Hopefully this is the type of game that builds character and makes them a better football team for having gone through it.
I was thinking of this on Saturday when watching the game. I know my post above was pretty much focusing all on the bad and that's just because hind sight is 20/20. But during the game, my thoughts: When we needed a spark and a score, Tre White delivered. When we needed a spark and turnover on defense, Key and Jones delivered. When we needed a big play from our offense and the Cuse D was selling out to stuff LF7, Harris and Dupre delivered on 2 big pass plays (although one was underthrown that should have been a TD) but he made up for it on that fade for the TD. Again, this is the type of game that builds character. When LSU needed big sparks at pivotal moments, big time playmakers stepped up and made big time plays. No doubt we have work to do before getting into the meat of the conference schedule, but if you look at all championship teams seasons, they all have a game or 2 like this one (for the most part). Lastly, Hats off to Syracuse. They played their tails off. They played tough football at the point of attack and brought it every play. They are a much more physically tougher football team than Auburn. That O-Line protected that QB and that 5th string walk on QB played poised and mentally tuned. That receiver Ismael is pretty solid. That DE Thompson is a great pass rusher. I will be rooting for the Orange from here on out. Good luck to them the rest of the season.
Well said; great analysis. Syracuse was surprisingly good -- perhaps our Tigers were guilty of overlooking and underestimating that team. I know I did as a fan. And combined with the travel and early kickoff, it really had the makings of potential disaster. The fact that LSU came away with a win says a lot about our Tigers, and can only help down the road.
