I can agree with everything here. Just don't forget, our passing game this year is relying on a sophmore QB throwing to 2 sophmore and 2 freshmen WRs. Last year, with an experienced QB and WRs, we threw the ball all over the yard. Patience.

While it can ONLy get better, I do not see Jennings as having the ability of Mett.

Jennings needs more designed runs, more weight in his pants, and needs roll outs/shotguns more IMO..

You're right about AJ/Mett. Don't forget, our OC turned a primarily running QB into a near-phenom as a dual-threat guy when he was at Illinois. No idea if he'll be able to do it again with AJ, but he has done it. You just have to accept what we have this season. Harris may beat him out in the off-season.

I'll share this with you, though. I really didn't become a hard-core LSU fan until the mid-90s, but growing up in New Orleans, I was fully onboard with the Saints from their birth. One thing the Saints taught me in those first 25 years.....being pessimistic about them didn't improve my mood when they inevitably let me down. We always knew this was to be a rebuilding year for LSU. A little optimism never killed anyone.

All true. It just sucks to think that we could have won that game despite trespassing efforts.

I don't understand why we don't run a run oriented spread team.

You are entitled to complain about Les. I am entitled to have a different opinion. Live with it.

That is your contention. Mine was that Les is responsible for winning football games and not responsible for quarterbacks making bad reads, bad throws, and interceptions because they are green. Quarterbacks also have responsibilities.

Among Les' responsibilities are recruiting, in which Les has done well. Les has recruited a number of 4 and 5 star quarterbacks. Not his fault that Perrilloux couldn't get his priorities straight or that Shepard was playing out of position. He promised Shepard a shot but had to move him to where he could make plays. LSU wins in double digits, is perennially ranked, and gets to championship games and major bowls. Our scoring offense has been very respectable with a strong rushing offense. That with a strong defense and effective special teams wins football games which is Les' prime responsibility.

I have a tough time giving a rat's ass about being the #90 passing offense when we are winning football games consistently.

    I knew you had nothing.

This is not a discussion of winning games.

Let me repeat: WE DO NOT DENY HE IS VERY GOOD AND WINNING FAMES.

    Try to stay on topic.

It is about improving his weakest area.

Something you and others choose to ignore.

I understand wishing we could win it all. Please understand that many of us recognize that perfect is rarely achievable, but excellent is and LSU has been excellent for an entire decade now. Damn few teams have been better. Damn few.

Some peoples thirst is quenched with a glass 80% full, while others get pissed that the glass is not overflowing.

Can we not enjoy the good parts while we bemoan what could have been?

It's what I am discussing. The thread is about the good, bad, and ugly. All three.

No one has ignored it. I and others just don't accept the premise that Les is responsible for all the the failures of his quarterbacks by not finding someone better out of high school. The quarterbacks also have to perform, Les can't do it for them.

Everybody would be happy if Les signed the #1 quarterback every year. Nobody does that, but we have signed some highly rated quarterbacks. Mettenberger worked out-- Perrilloux did not, Zach Lee got a MLB offer, and Shepard changed positions. It happens, amigo.

I wish that Jefferson and Lee did not have some mental and physical issues that kept them from the top level, . . . but they got us to the championship game anyway. I wish that Jennings and Harris had another year of experience under their belts. All we have to do is wait for that. And we still need to keep signing good quarterbacks and hope they work out as advertised.

Ain't human nature great.... There are those of us who, rightly, say that these are the glory days of LSU football, that we never had it so good for so long, and that we have Les Miles to thank for this, and to top it all off, he's a hell of a lot funner than Nick (I have a corn cob up my ass) Saban.

On the other hand, there are those of us who say, rightly, that it is ultimately the head coaches job to have all phases of the game developed, that there is no reason LSU should not have at least an average passing game and that, if we did, not only would we have beaten Alabama last night but in the 2011 championship game.

As for me, pretend that I am running for political office, and I agree with everybody. It is unfair, and unrealistic, of the Shane's of this world who want to run Miles off and replace him with ????

However, it is not unrealistic to say that, for whatever reason, LSU's passing offense has predominantly been woefully inadequate for most of Miles' tenure, that, as head coach, he is responsible, and that, with even an average passing game, LSU would be even more successful. There might be reasons, and good ones, but he is still responsible.

Does anyone know if Miles tried to recruit a JC quarterback for this year? Was there someone available? And, other than the obvious that we didn't sign anyone, what happened?

    Few could disagree.

“Ask not the elves for advice, because they will tell you both 'yes' and 'no'.” -- J.R.R. Tolkien :D

I don't think they anticipated that three quarterbacks would leave the program last spring, but I would be surprised if Les was not keeping an eye on the JC market this year after the success of Mettenberger and our youth and shallowness at QB
