I really wish the CBS contract would just end already. The Verne/Gary Alabama lovefest was sickening.
Screens at the game showed DB meter and it was in the 105-5 range all night with occasional spikes to 106/7. As Red said it was not a uninhibited as OM but still pretty continuously loud.
Red, thanks for the response on the loudness. Here's a link to Les' post game meeting with the press. 12 1/2 minutes. In his opening remarks, it's apparent to me that he wasn't happy with the officiating and the SEC office will hear about it. http://www.lsusports.net/mediaPortal/player.dbml?id=3523741
\If I said so, then prove it.. I never said there weren't dropped passes, but you fools think that 2 or 3 dropped passes over 18 in-completions is somehow the WRs fault. Passing in this O is out of desperation. Not because we can. There is a big difference in being confident in making a throw and just throwing it because you know you cannot convert a 3rd and 7 on the ground.
It's opinion when you say it, it's fact when I say it. Sooner you get that straight the better off you'll be!
Our passing offense still would have been anemic, at best, with those completions. However, three drops (if the ball hits you in the hands, and you don't haul it in, it's a drop) killed healthy drives. They were all at points when we had the Bama defense on its heels, and we let them off the hook. Even field goals would've made all the difference in the world. Jennings had a bad passing game, no doubt about it. But when the ball hits you in the hands past the down marker on 3rd down, you simply must make the catch. And Jones drop on first down in OT was unacceptable. With a missed tackle or two, he might have even scored on that play.
Good: No 25k fine for storming the field. Bad: First play welter stepped in, long run up the gut. Ugly: Does Red disagree that our passing game is hot gah-bage?
Right now, I'll take better command of things, because if Harris had proven himself when he got his chance, he would be starting. We had a real chance to win this game and the loss is not all on Jennings. I agree that Harris should get some more PT to earn himself another change to start. But the two road games remaining may not be the most ideal opportunities to do it. That's for damn sure. Even if he is waiting for a signal, a QB must keep his head on a swivel for a defensive breakdown and a receiver jumping up and waving and calling for the quick easy TD toss. The RB should have had Jennings' back, too . . . counting defenders and noticing an uncovered receiver. Got to put this one on Domingue. Squib it, skykick it, kick it long, whatever the circumstances dictate . . . but never kick it out of bounds. Well, we had to prevent the big play in that situation, but giving them the sidelines is a problem that needs fixing. They were trying to get fast guys covered by our linebackers and it worked, they beat them to the sidelines. Ultimately the problem is still lack of a pass rush from the defensive line. In general, I am for this. No cheap calls that just slow down a game. But the general decline in calling holds has led to flagrant holding by both teams on almost every play. That ain't football. They need to tighten this up.
Its funny how ya'll now say things like these drops are unacceptable, but when people point to the bad throws Jennings makes every game, we get thrown across the carpet over calling it, "unacceptable."
That is also unacceptable. However, when the ball hits you in the hands, you catch the ball. Ask Quinn this morning if he doesn't think he is partly to blame for that loss. He will think he is.
