Wasn't sure where to go with this and it didn't need it's own thread but Gary Danielson on the Paul Finebaum show today said that this LSU team is as talented if not more than the 2011 team. That's big coming from him I think
Talented maybe, but they're not on that level yet for sure. I'd say probably more talented on offense than 2011, but I wouldn't say the same about the D. However by the end of the season we could end up more balanced than 2011 which was carried by the defense.
More talented on offense for sure. Not as talented on defense but when some of the young guys have a little more experience they could be about as good. No big-time playmaker like the Honey Badger but as deep in the secondary. The big time playmaker wears #7. True O line is going to get better and better but they need some practice pass blocking. Even if they are winning big early Miles is not going to open it up and let Harris and our great receivers get in synch for when they might have to pass. As good as this team can be I don't see them blowing out everybody the way the 2011 team did.
Were are as talented as we were in 2011, but not as deep. Injuries at quarterback, linebacker or defensive tackle could ruin our year. Les must be fired if this happens. He is responsible for recruiting players that don't get broken.
There's no Tyrann Matthieu on this defense, but more importantly, the '11 defense had returned almost intact from the previous season. They had that previous year to mesh as a unit. This year's group is still coming together.
No doubt about it, the potential is there depth and youth separate them. If they could somehow get Beckwith to come back and pick up a stud or two for the DL next year...wow!
