THE GOOD LSU is a legitimate power running football team. We can control the clock. We averaged 7.5 yards per play. 8.5 yards per run. 411 rushing yards. Make some room in the Top-10. Fournette just went higher on everybody's Heisman list. Several Auburn defenders declined to take him head on. I haven't seen a back like this since Alexander, 40 years ago. Harris can run very well himself and opponents will have to consider this before stacking the line for Fournette. The O-line is dominant, opening big holes. Big, quick, strong and smart. Clapp and Pocic were outstanding. Harris threw for 70%, managed the offense well, and made no turnovers. Williams and Guice are going to be able to spell Fournette effectively with little drop-off. Guice had 9.1 yards a carry! The fullback is an effective blocker, too. Receivers blocked a lot better than I expected. Jeter looks like he will be a receiving threat at tight end this year. Big Frank Herron caused a huge fumble and recovered it at the five. Godchaux has two sacks. The D-line is improving. LSU has spanked two ranked teams right out of the gate. THE BAD Harris was not very accurate on his downfield passing. Two open receivers for TD's were missed badly. He threw into triple coverage on that crossing route were Jeter got hurt. There were two other receivers wide open in man coverage downfield. Adams dropped the easiest pick six he will ever see. Gordon was injured, not sure how badly. Hamstrings can be tricky. The field was dry but not in good shape. Players were digging divots every time they planted their feet. Adams could have returned that interception but lost his footing when the turf came up under his feet. The grass did not have deep roots. Maybe time to move the Bayou Superfest. Jennings could have gone in late in the 4th. I know Harris needs reps, but we don't need him hurt and we may need Jennings before this season is over. Special teams have been very average for two games now. Defense seemed a little gassed in the 4th quarter again. But it was 118 degrees and a lot of reserves were playing. THE UGLY That quarterback long run for a TD was ugly. Adams has run responsibilities and was out of position. Shades of Cam Newton. It was probably not smart to put Fournette back in for that last play. Williams had earned the TD shot. Fournette got his knee bruised. If it had been a torn ACL, we would be sunk. Let Leonard get his hundred and fifty and then spare him further abuse. They were seriously gunning for him.
Are we sure it was a knee? I thought it was a thigh, I get what you are saying and I agree, no reason for him to be in
Supposedly a thigh bruise. But it was silly to put him back into that game knowing he could do the leap into the endzone (he had tried that earlier in the game).
Sure, fine talent but a flash in the pan. Alexander The Great ran like a jet-powered tank for 4 years, was a Heisman finalist, and is in the College Football Hall of Fame. The Diesel got dismissed from the LSU team, from his next team and from his pro team, and in still in prison.
Most accurate good, bad and ugly yet. I'd add that the TE's and FB's blocking was very good. Also Dupree dropped a couple very catchable balls- bad. Another good was cleaning up the penalties from game one.
Ugly, gotta add officiating in the SEC. In 2 games yesterday, that stupid play where a qb runs and then pulls up at the line and throws it while offensive linemen are downfield has to go. I've also gotta add linebackers tackling and covering passes. This has to get better. We can't continue to depend on aggressive db's to save touchdowns, it doesn't work, the linebacker play must get better. Other than that agreed Red.
