At the end of the day LSU won, and I'm happy we won, but bank it, this is a blueprint of what's to come. And like it or not a good team (which state is not) is going to take advantage of 9 penalties for 95 yards and beat us. They are going to take advantage of the fact that we are again completely 1 dimensional.
But I didn't say LSU was screwed by the penalties, just observing if you want to say the only reason we won was because of a delay of game penalty and a 52 instead of 42 yard kick, then you need to take it all into account. During the game I was bitching about the blatant holding by Moo U when we were getting called all night - some deserved for sure.
To be clear, I am an optimist and agree with Reds GOOD. I'm happy we won, and realize that there were big plays that were called back, and look forward to that happening more this year without penalties. However, what was BAD is that this game came down to a delay of game penalty, that there was even a chance that MSU won this game, that LSUs offense ran the ball 22 times out 24 first and 10 situations, and finished the game with no balance with 47 runs and 14 passes.
Were you not aware that LSU has an All-American Heisman trophy candidate at running back this year? Everybody has known all along that LSU will be playing power football. Relax and enjoy the show.
Of course it was im not debating that. The game changes completely if the first two happens without the penalties. Or the third down penalty against adams for taunting. Lets play the game of "ifs" hows the game end up after thoes 3 penalties
I don't know where to find the stats, but Fournette was averaging 5 + yards a carry. If you asked most NFL coaches if you get 5 on first down, do you take it, I bet you would get a 80+% yes. I think play action on 2nd (or lack of) is a better criticism.
And imagine how good we could be if defenses didn't know for a fact he was getting the rock 78 percent of the time.
Which means Les just sits on his thumb and doesn't try to have a balanced attack? A little more passing give Fournette more opportunity, not less, to win the Heisman. There is power football and there is playing scared. We saw more of the latter than the former, and that is not in the best interest of the team (or our badass RB). You are too easy on Les.
