How did they know that with the mad hatter calling the plays? Or was the ghost of Bo wearing the headset?
Beats me, LSU is so balanced, good guesses maybe? What I don't understand is how a football coach doesn't understand that the ability to throw the ball, and create a threat to throw the ball, actually helps the running game, makes it easier to run, doesn't wear out your back, etc...
A friend of mine lives near the Louisiana School for the Blind. Said late in the 3rd he heard a chorus of screams from that direction screaming throw the fkn ball Les!
This. I love a power running game. I love chewing up the clock. I love to watch LF7 break tackles and carry a pile of defender five extra yards. But when the games on the line and the power running game is not producing first downs because the defense is stacking 8 in the box, you have stud WRs and good TEs and an up and coming QB under center, maybe, just maybe, ya might want to deviate just slightly from the one yard and a cloud of dust game plan and try to pick up a friggin first down. Just maybe.
Sure, but think about the four big plays that were called back because of stupid penalties. That is 150+ lost yards and two TD's that we would be celebrating today if not for the flags. Those were yardage plays that were called and worked. Stupid fouls are something that can be fixed.
Yea, they were blatant holds, but had no effect on the plays. that is what really sucks. It is good to know Harris can make the throws asked of him. That one catch Dupre mad that was called a no catch likely would have resulted in points as well.
But it is quite relevant to the people complaining that Les started going conservative in the second quarter.
Boutte was pulled because he could not pass block worth a damn and held on a play that cost us a TD. http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2015/09/lsu_offensive_line_josh_boutte.html Change could be coming on LSU's offensive line when LSU lines up against Auburn Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. Starting junior right guard Josh Boutte was benched for the second half of LSU's 21-19 victory at Mississippi State after struggling through the first half. Freshman Maea Teuhema was inserted at left guard with Will Clapp moving to the right side. Boutte, who has drawn praise for his size and strength, struggled from the start. On his final play, LSU's final play of the first half, he was beaten easily by his man, which caused the Tigers' only allowed sack of the game in 17 called pass plays. Earlier in the first half, Boutte' let two tacklers go by him unblocked on a read option handoff that resulted in a 1 yards loss by Leonard Fournette. Later on the same drive, he was flagged for holding when he grabbed blitzing LB Richie Brown and pulled him down to nullify a 37-yard scoring pass from Brandon Harris to Travin Dural. LSU eventually scored on the drive. Teuhema subbed in earlier in the first half before finishing the game in the second. LSU coach Les Miles commented on the in-game move afterward, saying, "We've got to get him coming because he's a dominant player, too. He needs a little seasoning, a little coaching."
At least two of the penalties on those big plays were extremely obvious and at the point of attack. They wouldn't have been big plays with out them. Cleaning up the penalties will help, but throwing a little more against 8-9 man fronts would help even more. It would even improve the running game.
