Stats don't always tell the story. Pre-Gonzo, we went a couple of years where our WR's didn't even know where they were supposed to be on the field. Didn't run the right routes. Didn't run crisp routes. The last couple of years with Gonzo have been better. I'm certainly not saying he's a world-beater, but our receivers are better stat-wise and in regard to the immeasurables.
The biggest improvement for the WR under Gonzo has been Run After the Catch... Spin Move. Gonzo seems to be a good coach that time hear was going to be relatively short lived as he seemed to be expecting bigger things; for example, I thought he left Florida as he was promised the OC job. Remind anyone of a recent Urban Liar thread? If he goes, I hope it is after a big win next Monday.
Again, not calling for his head but where would you rank him with all the other staff members? That is why I said if we had to lose anyone.
The same place most TE coaches are ranked on every staff. What does that tell you........... I do like what he doing with the taking over of the OT, freeing up Studs. I do like that LSU has 4 former OC on this staff.
Most TE coaches around the country coach multiple positions and have even seen some as recruiting coordinators. Very rare to have just a TE coach in college football given the limits on number of coaches by the NCAA Wilkerson is a huge plus right there.
I would wish him well but admit that I'd hate to see anyone on this staff leave as they all seem to be part of a very cohesive group. But I know coaches must move around a lot to get their shot at a coordinator or HC position.
Ben is working with the OG and OC, an has done a great job. Limits? Is that why we see, " offensive quality control" jobs in college? This is true about TE coaches, RC and Special Teams are a couple of the jobs added(Steve has TE and OT). But from the looks of things, Les has the coaches in the jobs and where he wants them, so who can argue.:thumb:
I, for one, sure appreciate Bhelm's and LSUDad's insight. I always learn something. Thanks to both of you. And, you both are great at sharing information in a way that doesn't jeopardize the sources that you clearly both have. That's very noteworthy, too.
If we had to lose a coach, Gonzales or Ensminger would be the least that would hurt us ... Both Gonzo & Ensminger were being trained by Krags who has been a great source of learning for both of these yocals ... Gonzo is a fool to leave LSU now ... shudda waited another season and wudda gotten his choice of jobs (OC, etc) after back-to-back crystals Football - Coaches - LSUsports.net - The Official Web Site of LSU Tigers Athletics We cannot afford to lose ... due to recruiting/performance 1. Chavis/Brick/Cooper combination on defense 2. Stud/Krags/Wilson combo on offense ... with a focus on Krags!!! 3. Special teams coach McGaughey
Agree, Gonzo should wait another year, jobs will open and next year, he has a shot at making another ton of cash. Bank------it...... Les this year with a win looks to make a total of around 4.25M. Joe Rob left last year to pad his resume, went to NC with Butch Davis. Joe wants a DC job, now, hes looking for a job. Hes a good one, shouldn't take him long to find a job. Oh, one of the reasons Butch hired him, look at what the Special Teams did to NC the opening game of 2010, an who was the ST Coach?
