As I'm watching the saints play, sproles has been brees' dump off man when everyone is covered. Follow me here, send three receivers deep, the tight end on a quick out to pull one of the outside linebackers to the sideline and shep coming out of the backfield one on one with a linebacker. Shep would be either the dump off man or the primary for a quick third and eight. That's to say if shep will catch it. He had one pass go right through his hands that would have been an awsome strike across the middle. We have to see that shep isn't a natrual receiver so don't send him on twenty yard routes. Let shep catch the ball on a six yard pass so he can run like hell. Sproles doesn't go out on long strikes like Henderson , sproles catches passes that are really long handoffs. Maybe one of our resident coaches can explain why we don't do this?fishhead? Islstl?
We better worry about beating Florida, Tennessee and Auburn before we even get near Tuscaloosa. We are going to be every teams "big win" from here on in my opinion.
I think in order to beat bama were gonna have to 1. Shut down the bama run game(pssst...linebackers...that means you cant be on vacation for the game) 2. stop bama's special team.....maze scares the hell out of me. 3. be able to run the ball with moderate success(bama's linebackers are very very good) 4. Win the turnover battle.....love our odds there with T-Rex!! 5. put the game in AJ Macaron's hands lets see what happens.
It'll be a game where those dropped passes will affect us even more. GOT to get that cleaned up! Gotta say, granted I'm not at practice to see everything he does, but it seems that our WR's aren't THAT improved in fundamentals from season's past under Billy G. Kinda underwhelmed if I were to nitpick. I thought he was supposed to be something of a WR-Golden-Boy coach??? We've had WR dropping passes--not the difficult ones that are off-target, etc....I'm talking about the soft ones where they just don't concentrate.
What keeps giving people this notion that Shep is still this all-world player??? I can probably count on 1 hand the "WOW" plays he's made...and he's a Junior and has been a REGULAR in our offense since he stepped on campus. He's just NOT consistant enough to be a Darren Sproles....He's not even consistant enough to be a Trindon Holliday!
This is kinda what I was getting at. You simply cannot expect a QB to throw a perfect pass everytime. The WRs are going to have to step up their game. RR can't be dropping any passes in the endzone like against WV. Shep needs some pine resin on his hands. Everyone kinda scoffed at me about his ability to "catch" the ball last time. Well .. he's proving me right. He needs to learn to catch the ball before he goes about trying to wow the crowd with any YAC. And I agree with RWill ... we need to learn to utilize the screen. I'm not talking about the little WR screen, I'm talking about a screen out of the backfield when the LBs are getting sucked in with a play action or a blitz. Bama's defense is too good to not keep them off balance.
A play action screen is great but we need to sell them on a deep route to get the DBs and Safety to back off as the DL gets sucked in. Not QUITE ready but it's coming. A few good vertical games by whomever is at QB (presumably JL) and then we won't come across as fairly one dimensional. It will also take some heat from off of our running game.
