Excuse me if this has already been discussed, but what do you think of the 2-point try with 18 minutes left in the game up 15-10? I know that coaches have the secret chart which tells them the math, but personally, I hate going for 2 with more than 10 minutes left in the game. If there's going to be 3-4 more possessions by each team, too much bad can happen if you miss.
There was disagreement even under my roof on that call. G-LSU disagreed with it, while I didn't think it was a bad call. We then put it in the hands of our defense, who were getting the job done--heck, even intercepted the ball. Wait...nevermind...
I didn't like it because if you fail, you can lose with 2 FGs. Way too early to chase the numbers. GEAUX TIGERS
At that point in time, I didn't think it was a bad decision. These are the kinds of calls that the coach is a genius if they make it and an idiot if they don't make it. However, to me it is irrelevant because it made no difference whatsoever with the final score.
i liked it. Like Stacey said, our defense was doing it's part and keeping bama in check/holding them to FGs. Miles wanted to try and ensure that bama would have to score a TD to win. It ended up not working out for us but I still like the call - although i understand those who didn't like it.
i think hawthorne said today before the press conf that miles originally said "one" and that upstairs convinced him to go for two. the almighty 2 pt conv chart/card i guess.
I would have expected they would kick the extra pt. Would have put us up 16-10. Then Bama would have been up 24-16 and its still a one possession game. :insane:
I disagreed with it. You've got two great defenses and a low scoring game. You take every point you're given until time and situations dictate otherwise.
You can't go for 2 that early in the game. You can't "project" that far into the future. With 8 minutes to go, sure. With 18 minutes to go, no way in hell. It's stupid and it almost always comes back to hurt the team if they don't make the conversion. Actually Bama would have been up 23-16 had we gone for 1. Bama would have kicked an xtra point instead of going for 2 themselves later in the game.
I felt it was a little early to be chasing points, but because we were up only 5 points I was ok with it. If we'd gotten the 2, we'd had a 7 point lead. I understood the call. It's the same as going after the punt late in the game. We didn't get the breaks Saturday. :crystal::geaux::crystal::geaux::crystal:
