The interesting things with this snapshot, which hasn't gotten a lot of discussion here is... has anyone seen the job that Roy Williams is doing and the year that NC is having? I know all is relative (and it's the ACC and not SEC), but some of the fans on here would have you believe that CTJ's job this year is un"acceptable". What about UNC, a basketball school, a team stocked with McD AAs, and coming off a NC? It just goes to show you that EVEN with "one and done" players, youth, inexperience, chemistry, coaching, and a whole lot of "momentum or team confidence" can drastically affect a season's fortunes. And, that to some degree, a team has to fall a little bit after a very good year. No way that UNC should be 3-10 in the ACC with that roster, and yet, is Roy a bad coach, or did he somehow not "recruit" the right players?
Perhaps, although there are plenty of teams in there in the mix for bids... GA Tech, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Wake and Maryland are all NCAA caliber teams. It's just a phenomenon of players staying with a program, getter better, etc. Sometimes it's just a nature of college basketball, where due to players coming and going, the teams a cyclical. But, you look at Maryland, and Gary Williams was on the "hot seat" a year or so ago. Virginia Tech is likely just a bunch of players who have been with that program and under the radar, that is now playing well.
Before reading that snapshot, I didn't know that the Reigning National Champs were so horrible this year. UNC has only won 4 of their last 15 games. They are last place in the ACC (3-10), while their arch-rival Duke is 1st in the ACC (11-2) and #5 in the nation. UNC only has two games left in the regular season: and the last one is @ #5 Duke. You know Duke is licking their chops for that one.
This season will put an end to UNC's streak of six consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tourney. They also failed to make in both 2002 and 2003. Before that, they went to the NCAA Tourney 27 seasons straight (every season from 1975-2001). Roy Williams has been UNC head coach since 2003.
i was at the arky game. yes the team is playing better the last few games, but that night of the arky game, they played the best they have all year. arky may have been flat, but the Tigers were super aggressive on both sides of the ball. they were stealing and knocking balls out of passing lanes left and right. they were bearing down to the goal and getting the points and hitting 3's quite well. they played hard and they played well. they truly deserved that win. they played as a team that night, which might have been a first for them this season.
what was the actual attendance? not surprised it would be low, but was it truly under 500 people like CajunSensation says? If so, it gives new meaning to Deaf Dome.
There have been between 4000 and 6000 at most games this year. Arkansas was probably in the 5000 range.
