Glenn Gulibeau is a piece of garbage Im not dumb enough to think Saban wont go to the NFL someday, hell maybe even next year...but Guilbeaus timing is ridiculous. http://www.2theadvocate.com/stories/122903/lsu_tmoglen001.shtml
He is probably right but so are you he is a lazy piece of garbage with an axe to grind against Saban. If you don't kiss the azz of the Advocate sports writers and hand deliver them articles to print they won't like it and will continually complain in their columns how media unfriendly you are. These guys are parasites that live off of someone elses success or failure. It would be nice to see a couple of them get off of their butts and go out and get some news to report.
Guilbeau was never picked up for an AP article this year regarding LSU sports. It would seem that he would try to put together a decent article for a team playing in the national championship since the AP likes to print articles from the school's hometown papers, however, he continues to print crap, bellyache and stir controversy since Saban doesn't hand the media anything on a silver platter.
ridiculous That was the biggest waste of the Advocate's newsprint and my time that I believe I have ever experienced. My beagle could have written that for all the thought it contained. And this in NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WEEK! If Guilbeau doesn't have more to say this week he should be fired. I say this as a person who thought he was one of the better of the group. Obviously I am sadly mistaken. He's a slacker, and this proves it.
I sent this email to him this morning It's not bad enough that the national media thinks they are saying something new when writing about Saban leaving, but God knows that you should know better. Do we really need another Saban is leaving story when LSU is getting ready to play in the biggest game in their history? Aren't there enough other things to write about that your subscribers would really want to read. Quit beating a dead horse. Anybody can predict that Saban is going to leave and eventually be correct. If you something definitive than report it, if you are going to base your article on conjecture and unconfirmed sources from some other conjecture than don't write it. Geez. David Giardina Atlanta, GA Doubt if he'll reply though.
Let me add a couple of points. It's not the job of the Advocate to be boosters for LSU. Sure, they cover them like the home team, but from Archer to Curley to Gerry, they have always speculated about the status of the head coach. Second, this national talk about Saban is part of the Sugar Bowl game story. It's the pink elephant sitting in the front row on the 50 yardline. I've known a few sportswriters, from smaller town newspapers to top ten markets and they all want a good story and to be read. They have no duty to be cheerleaders; in fact homers in the business are not respected by their peers. What professionals want regardless of their job is to be respected by their peers. They write for their peers as much as they write for us. That's why the Academy Awards are such a big deal, peers vote for peers. The fact that we're discussing this and some are trashing him is what gets him respect from his peers and attention. Another Nick is a great guy article doesn't really do anything for him among his peers in the newsroom and across the country who are coming to town, calling him up and asking him about LSU and Nick Saban. Sure, he may be a jerk in real life or he may be a great guy but it's not his job to make everyone happy. If you want only good stuff read the stuff put out by the Sports Information Department at LSU.
Me thinks you are kin to Guilbeaus! I must say that is a first rate brother-in-law defense Wiggum. He still has no journalistic integrity, running has been articles. You would think that someone of his stature would be rooting up a story that no one has heard of.
My beef about it is, number one, the timing. Why does any of this crap have to be brought out now, especially by a hometown writer? I can understand the national media pounding on it, but a hometown guy? Come on! Nick and the team don't need anymore distractions and it sure doesn't help in recruiting. Secondly, how many times does Nick and Terry have to say they love it in BR and he really loves what he is doing and he has no interest in the pros?! Nick would be nuts to leave here in the foreseeable future. He's got everything he could want and what he doesn't have yet he's going to get. Personally I don't see the guy as being so shallow as to leave any time soon. And the MSU situation was entirely different than here. Maybe I am naive but I have more faith in the guy and his word than that. GEAUX TIGERS!!!
Not kin to them, but I have been friends with sportswriters. It's a badge of honor among them to be hated by some coaches, get ice-water dumped over their heads, create talk and so on. Some sportswriters take the buddy approach with coaches and players (that's how Rocker got treated, he actually thought that SI reporter was a buddy or confidant) and some become buddies with people close to coaches and athletes such as front office personal, locker room attendants, and people on the margins who are in the know about something. The best sources are typically the coach or players themselves who leak stuff on purpose or the locker-room attendant or real estate agent or from other players or coaches with an agenda. The best sportswriters do both. Who knows he may know something or he may most likely be just running his mouth.
