I thought it was more like he thought the quarterback issue hasn't been settled yet. It could be a problem or a triumph, depending on Jefferson's performance. One win is just not enough for us to assume that LSU's quarterback issues are over.
i agree with dolemite's post. there's nothing wrong with optimism. but there's nothing wrong with realism either. there are question marks on this team. btw, flynn was a 5th year senior not an 18 yr old turning 19 soon. edit: a 5th year senior that lost two games that year as well.
OK, I'll admit that........................maybe........................I was a bit harsh. But I think we need to put things in perpective as for the QB issue. Personally, I don't think it's nearly the problem that the detractors seem to want to point out. Ask yourself this question: Why aren't fans and media making the same point when it comes to Alabama's QB situation? They're coming into the season with about the same amount of experience as LSU. Saban is a helluva coach(albeit a lying traitor). He showed that when he won the BCSNC at LSU with a QB that wouldn't have a chance of starting in most major college programs. (Before you guys start bashing me, be honest. Mauk was not a great QB.) After limited observation of our QB situation, I feel we have a much better QB going into this season. I also am of the opinion that Les Miles exceeds the talent that Saban brought to the program. I DO NOT feel that our chances are going to suffer because of our QB. He showed me enough in last year's Bowl game for me to be happy with him. The point that I really like about him is the fact that he can improve upon a really good showing going into this season. And he's not Perrilloux, he'll still be on the team instead of shooting craps at the boat. To be honest, I think Perrilloux's exit last year had the most impact on our team than any other factor. He could have and should have had us in the NCG at the end of the season. However, he proved to be a punk and was treated as such by Miles and sent on his way. Again,,,,,,,I'm TIRED of hearing about how our QB situation is so damn questionable. I think we'll be be in it to win it with a helluva good football team.
Congrats, you found out my secret identity. Maybe I shouldn't be the one with purple kool-aid in my avatar. OK, chief. Let's do that. At the risk of triggering another rant let's face reality here. We needed a host of BCS tie-ins to even get to the dance in '03 instead of USC. If Pat White doesn't go down to injury before the Pitt game, we don't get there in '07 either. Those are facts. Those well-rounded teams needed an awful lot of luck to get those 2 crystal footballs, and those were with known commodities like junior/senior QBs who had been in the system for years and staunch defenses. What does our QB corps look like in 2009? A true sophomore who often had disastrous outings last year and a redshirt sophomore with very little experience in Crowton's system. Show me the dominating defensive effort from last year indicating that we'll have one this year. Even in the Chick-Fil-A bowl GT put up a lot of yards on us before the offense put the game out of reach. Remember, we have an entirely new D coaching staff, and I love what those guys are doing, but right now the D is an UNKNOWN because, and I'll say this slowly for you so you can understand it, they...haven't...played...a...game...yet. Unless someone in the East steps up and poses a serious threat to Florida, we would have to play them twice to get to the BCSNC. What are the odds that a 1st year revamped defense contains one of the best offenses in the country twice? Got me there. Yep, contrary to conventional wisdom, 2 whole games as a starter is now "enough experience to win games." I love what JJ can do, but he will have to go through his growing pains just like everyone else in this league. I'm excited about the POTENTIAL we have at QB and on defense, but until they start playing their schedule, these are UNPROVEN positions. And let's look at that schedule while we're at it. We play the East's toughest teams (UF, UGA on the road), while having to play the entire slate of West teams (Ole Miss, Bama). Both of those teams have much easier schedules on paper than we do. So even if we can get there, a trip to the SECCG likely means we play Florida again. And with everything I just mentioned you still realistically expect a 11-1 or 12-0 season?? This is one of those situations where I'd love to be wrong. But I see this team being a lot like the 2006 team that was extremely dangerous by year's end, but had to endure its share of tough losses during the season. Realistically our best shot at a BCSNC is 2010, when Tebow is gone, Snead may be gone, we play Bama at home, and a full year at QB and for the D scheme to gel should make this team a monster.
From the experience of reading many of your past posts, I'm fairly sure that you're pissed at me. How do I come to that conclusion? You called me "Chief". I've seen your past "Chiefs", so I think I'm on track. :yelwink2: You have alot of facts that are correct, some I disagree with. I'm gonna stay with the positive when it comes to predicting the outcome of the '09 season. I'm gonna be optomistic and expect the best, not the worst. I prefer to look at the potential for success instead of the expections of failure. I think we've got alot of experience coming back this year and alot of potential with our replacements on both sides of the ball. And I don't really think you're Dildeau's bastard son. I just wanted to see if I could be your "Chief". Thanx. :hihi:
