He's not telling informed fans anything they didn't already know. He enjoys raining on the fans' pre-season parade and a lot of fans, myself included, don't like that. He's doing his job, sure, but I don't have to shower praises on him for the way he goes about it.
ONE EXAMPLE: Miles did not deserve a raise, and LSU did not need to give him one because he's not going anywhere. Miles will likely never garner the interest from NFL teams that went to former LSU coach Nick Saban, who would have never lost to Phillip Fulmer in Tiger Stadium. Miles was only a minor assistant in the NFL. He's not a hot commodity. He has his dream job. Bayou Bengals Blog: Why a raise for Les Miles? Glenn, how did the current head coach at Alabama do against UAB's coach in Tiger Stadium ? Additionally, looks like the raise was money well spent given the crystal that Miles help bring home. No GG is far from unbiased even if he happens to make a good point evey now and then.
JJ doesn't have to be Jamarcus, who was such a physical phenom that he could often overcome mental mistakes with his arm and legs. And we can only hope he won't be Booty. I'd gladly take Matt Flynn-style play. Flynn basically had to be a game manager, distributing the ball to our wealth of talented WRs and RBs, making an occasional play on the run, while keeping mistakes to a minimum. I could easily see Jefferson filling that type of role.
Here's a pretty good analysis what needs to happen from a team standpoint: WWL - AM870 | FM105.3 | News | Talk | Sports - *
yeah if i had to pick a GG article to agree with out of all his stuff this would be near the top. i agree with most of it. and i'm developing a nervous tick just completing this sentence. just because we think it's fixed doesn't mean it is. JJ has a long way to go kinda like JR did, but i was a JR guy and i know there are some that weren't. the road will probably not be without its bumps. there will be a cluster of fans who will have to come back down to earth if the tigers don't win 10 games this season. improvement should be the theme this year.
Guilbeau is not a good writer. He has access. And he has experience. But he's almost amateurish as a writer. If he didn't have access, he'd have a hard time getting even the fish-wrappers he writes for to pay for his stuff. And, as has been said, he purposefully tweaks the fan base - which causes many to moan - and post his article for discussion - which is nothing but good for Guilbeau. But I agree with his article. At this stage, there are still questions to be answered at QB. But not as many as last year at this time.
Actually, Guilbeau ain't really a bad writer, it's just that controversy is his bag, which annoys us. But there have been times when all the local sportswriters kissed the coaches asses and only reported the sunshine news. Guilbeau keeps them honest. If he didn't exist we'd have to invent him.
agreed, it is much easier to do shock journalism than it is to provide analysis and a fair opinion based on what you know. i'm so curious to know if he even believes the stuff he writes or if he's playing a heel. i hate that he's just going for cheap reads. but i guess there will always be an audience for stuff like that and as long as people (myself included) talk about him, he doesn't care just spell his name right i guess.
